I recently (after waiting 6 months) received my Springfield M1A. Now I am in the market for a new stock. I ahve looked at the Sage and the Troy industires. I have not been able to handle either one yet. For those of you with these or any other brand stock of similar designs, what are your opinions and should I be looking at other brands?

There really are not that many options. For the Modern stocks you have Troy, Sage, JAE, McMillan, and another that I just can't think of. They will cost you. Then you have USGI walnut, birch or synthetic and the USGI wooden pistol grip abomination stock.

One word of advice don't order from Fred.

I've owned several SAGE and TROY stocks, I sold the TROY stocks and kept the SAGE EBRs.
The JAE and McMillan are heavy and the McMillan requires bedding.

My favorite: M14ALCS/CV CQB M14, EBR Tactical Aluminum Chassis Stock with M4/M16 style receiver extension tube.

My M1A was a competition rifle, so I went with a McMillan.

McMillan also makes the M2A and the M3A, which add pistol grips and adjustable cheek pieces. These will need to be bedded to your action though.

    +1 for McMillan.

Naturally I recommend their M1A model over any of their various "tactical" versions; but in any case it is almost impossible to go wrong with any McMillan stock.

+1 for the Sage. Havent shot it yet, (work has been crazy busy lately) but the quality of machine work and construction is fantastic!
