I've had an M1A1 I took as payment about 15 years ago and recently decided to sell it but have been challenged on it's authenticity. The stock has an 'OI' stamped inside the stock and on the bottom of the grip. No P in a circle that I can tell. All that should point to it being original.

The challenge comes from no casting number on the butt of the stock. I've had reproduction stocks before and this is not the same.

Is this really just a well marked early reproduction or real. I based my price on 75% of the average of all the CMP sales but if it's a fake, I'm way over priced.

Any help or thoughts would be welcome.

I have a M1A1 that seems to be an original M1A1 inland Div. SN#17899x
A P in circle at the back. The rivets...

Many of those stocks were built up from parts by collectors, who replaced damaged or rusty parts with repro parts. (Hint: the foreend appears to be in excellent shape, while the leather of the buttstock is worn and tattered. Then there is the unnumbered buttplate.)
