I was at a gun show this weekend and saw the FN Tactical Police Shotgun, which was basically a Wincester 1300 with an M4 telescoping stock, A3 sights and a Weaver rail. I think it was ported too.

It was a good concept, but I'd change a few things in making it a defense/duty shotgun.
First off, I'd start with an 870P, a platform I am much more familiar with in terms of breaking down and use in hunting with my 870 Wingmaster.
I like the M4 telescoping stock much better than those-fold-over-the-top and side folders. All I have seen have seemed cheap or the ergonomics were not right with too much drop in the stock.
My "ultimate 870" would start with an 870P with a mag tube extension, the M4 type telescoping stock, Surefire forward grip for "blinding light" and similar sights as the FN, but lowered a bit. A good sling would be important and maybe a side saddle shell holder.
Choke tubes or an adjustable choke would be nice depending on range and usage (wide open for buildings, with a tighter choke for more open areas.)
I am a FIRM believer in slugs to give a shotgun better reach out to 100 yards. I liked the FN's sights because they had two aperatures, a larger ghost ring and a tighter peep for dialing in slugs. There were large dials on the sights for elevations and windage.
With practice, one could mark the elevation dial on the sight to be sighted at 100+ yards with a particular brand of slugs. This would allow the shotgunner to extend his reach. I'd carry mix of premium buckshot and slugs on a bandoleer.
Does anyone make the telescoping rear stock for the 870 yet? I want to start on my shotgun project.
