So, I have this M44 that I bought a couple years ago. Thought it was just another rifle. Turns out after some research, that the M44 M91/59s are rare. This one was made in Izhevsk. The rifle is in great shape! Was still covered in cosmoline in the bolt when I bought it. Has no rust anywhere. The rifling is gorgeous! Only issue the gun has is that the front sight is a tad loose. Can anyone tell me what this rifle is worth?

These days in that condition about $300-$400 depending on if the buyer is a collector who will pay more. Moison Nagats have really gone up in price.

I paid 79.00 for mine.....in 1993. Sorry, had to say it.

Lucky you. I wasn't even old enough to buy firearms then.

I have a nice M44 that I bought last year for $299 with 200rds of ammo, ammo can, and case. That's still a pretty sweet deal considering a good one is hard to find these days.

Mosins are going up in price since the supply is drying up. I think I paid something around $250 for my M44 from Classic Firearms 3 years ago. I was happy to pay that because until that shipment, M44s were very difficult to find.

91/59's are not exactly rare. But they are desirable and popular to own.

Congrats-sounds like you got a nice one.

The M44 and the M91/59 are two separate models. The M44 had a folding bayonet, the M91/59 has no bayonet, nor provision for attaching one. The M91/59 was produced from hand selected M91/30's which were then cut down to carbine length. These rifles are usually very accurate. I took mine out today, and here's four rounds at 25 yards:

It does the same at 50, widens out to 1.5" -2" at 100. Might have to hunt with this one this fall. I have a "sporterized" (By Sears or Wards back in the 60's, not me) 91/30 that is more accurate than this one; I usually hunt with that one when I'm walking. I use the scoped .223 from stands.

That fifth one down in the 8 is a .223 neck shot.

Thats why I asked if it had the folding bayonet. The 91/59 was basically a later version of the M38 carbine made from shortened 91/30s incorporating their longer rear sight leaf with the longer distances milled off. I have several of each. Thats why I asked if it had the folding bayo. It could be a rare cross over or very limeted rifle.

Mr. Crowley,
These gentlemen will need some pics of overall condition, as well as any markings you can find, to ascertain an approximate value.

I got a 44 and a 91 for $69 each, a bunch of years ago....early to mid 90s maybe?
I cleaned up and used, then gave the 91 to a friend.
I decided to keep the 1954 Romanian M44 (numbers matching, except the bolt) ditched the hammered/cracked stock and dropped it in an ATI stock. Great carbine!
