I've been looking for an M38, as I want the carbine version of the Mosin sans bayonet (no M44 for me). I used to have an M91/30 and have since sold it, and now I'm looking for something to fill the void. Then I found the M91/59 for sale at Classic Arms (http://www.classicarms.us/) for $129.

I understand these are M91/30s cut down to carbine specs and a certain portion of the rear sight leaf marks ground off. What else is there to know?

Anybody have one of these?

How do these compare to the M38?

How are these for accuracy? I'm looking for something reasonably accurate for target shooting to 400 yards.

$129 seems like a good price considering how bad prices have "adjusted" on other items.

What do you guys think? Should I buy one? Pass? Keep looking for an M38?

$129 is an excellent price for a M91/59. I have two of them and both are extremely accurate (under 1.5 MOA). I have about 30 mosins (carbines, M91/30's, M91's and most of the Finnish models). The M91/59's are among the best. These rifles are almost identical to the M38 except for the features you mentioned. I have never heard of an inaccurate one. All I have seen have been rearsenaled in excellent condition with light colored stocks. Most I have seen were in the $150 to $200 range. The M38 might have more history but the M38 averages 3-4 MOA so does not compare when it comes to accuracy.

i'm still unclear as to whether or not classicarms is a respected distributor or are they more like century arms. if they're respected, go for it!

Quite handy and packs a punch. 2-3 inch groups at 100yds. Great for deer/hog hunting in close quarters. Get you some Sellier Bellot 180 gr SP at Midwayusa.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I was out today looking to see if I can find something locally, and I found a Polish M44 in a synthetic stock for $149.

It looks to be in VERY good condition, as if unissued, and it cycles very smoothly. After taxes, this would cost about the same as the M91/59 from Classic Arms with shipping and FFL transfer.

I can live with the bayonet, so with that said, how would the Polish M44 fare accuracy-wise? I may just pick this one up locally and get the M91/59 (or an M38) later. I will most likely buy the Polish M44 tomorrow if they still have it at the store. Afterall, Mosins are cheap enough that there's no reason I can't have both.

Classic sells alot of stuff from Century, but unlike Century they have excellent customer service. Go and get it.

I've ordered from Classic Arms multiple times and always had a good experience with them. I picked up one of those M91/59s and it looked great. Haven't had the time to clean it up yet and take it out but I say go for it!

Big 5 price gouging!!!

Hey everybody!

I was going to buy the Polish Mosin I found locally, but that particular store is closed until after New Year's.

So I went to Big 5 and found a beautiful laminate-stock Russian M91/59, exactly what I wanted. The only thing that kept me from bringing her home was the price: $220.

Any way I can get these guys to let it go for, oh, I don't know, $140?
$220 is WAY too much for a Mosin (unless it's a Finn), and these guys are the only ones in town that carry these. I don't know if Big 5 has a price-matching policy but it would be great if they did.

The Polish are among the best M44's however, in a synthetic stock, they lose quite a bit of value. Mine looks unissued and shoots about 3 MOA. The M91/59 would be my first choice if you are looking for a shooter.

I just got off the phone with the manager of Big 5 and it turns out they will be having a sale next week. Maybe they'll have the M91/59 for a normal price.

So now my dilemma is should I wait for next weeks sale and get the M91/59 (assuming it's included in the sale, but the manager confirmed this), or get the Polish M44 from the other store? I'd get both but I only have money for one at his time.

I paid $160 for an M38 about three weeks ago. They are still around, keep looking.

My 91/59 I got from Classic Arms was received in way better shape than the lammy M38 I purchased elsewhere. It outshoots the heck out of the M38, too. Don't know if that is generally true or not.

I also have been considering ordering a 91/59 from Classic
Arms. It would make a nice addition to my MN collection. Can someone post a pic of the 91/59 they received from Classic to show their condition?
