But i'm still too computer illiterate to find them lol.

Just picked up a Mauser M48 rifle, should be in by tomorrow or early next week. came with accessories like a Bayonet, Scabbard, Belt Hanger, Sling, Leather Ammo Pouch, Cleaning Kit and the such. I've always been a diehard history type, and I jumped at the chance to get this rifle seeing as it's looks very similiar to the German KAR98 used in WWII. What I really want to do however is throw a WWII styled scope on it once I get it. This will disallow the use of the stripper clip I know, but I really want to try to get a semi-accurate looking sniper rifle going.

My question is, does anyone know where I can pick up the scope bracket and a scope of that style? I believe the scope rectile is reffered to as German #4, could be wrong on that however.

Never thought I would be able to own a gun like this and actually be able to fire it lol

Thanks for any help you guys can give me

You are aware that you will have to bend the bolt to put on a scope, right? And that the German handguard did not extend past the rear sight, like the Yugo, right? And that the action on the Yugo is shorter, right? You should have went for one of the German ones that was captured by the Russians, and goes for about $150. It would be more worthwhile, especially if you are a diehard history fan.

Didn't go that route because if I got that one I wouldn't want to fire it lol. Grabbed this one because it seems like it's going to be a fun rifle to have. As far as the modifications it shouldn't be too much of a problem, know someone who could give me a hand with that type of stuff, I try not to bother him though.

If I was to ever get a real, previously issued, battlefield used 98, it would be locked in the safe only coming out for resoration. Have a few projects like that going on and don't really need a new one lol. This one i'm picking up I'll take hunting with me and not worry too much about shooting it and the such. But since it looks similar it can't hurt to make it look like what I wanted can it?

Ah! Can't blame you for not wanting to hurt a German. Although, I would still reccomend one of the Russians to you. Think of it as a cheap one that can be shot. One you don't have to keep locked up. And most look liek they have seen combat.

I also wanted to make sure you didn't fall for the 'Historic WWII Era Mauser' that they have been advertised as. Too many distributors wanting to drop thier shipments by saying they were used in the War, or at least making it appear that way.

As for the mount, I have no idea where you can find it.

Hawkmoon - they have a bent bolt. But it is not bent as far as the K98. All the scopes I have seen on a M48 had to have the bolt bent more.

You won't hurt a German 98 or its value by shooting it and taking proper care of it, but you most certainly will by attempting to 'restore' it.

There are some scout mounts out there that mount in place of the rear sight leaf- I couldn't tell you if any are any good or not- I shoot only irons.

The Yugo bolt is not bent enough enough to mount a scope, or bent in the right direction for that matter.

Why if my budget allows or the circumstances allow I try to get 2. One I restore to like new condition for shooting purposes, the other stays the way it is. It's a little expensive sure, but that's why I have only done it once so far, hard to find two of the same rifle or handgun, at least the ones I want :)

Milsurpshooter, I'm new here too. I'm the dummy that wrote a novel on the introduction page. I never could keep my mouth shut or in this case, my fingers still. Actually I wanted to respond to your Mauser question. There are several sites on the web where you can find sniper scopes and other Mauser parafenalia, but sometime that stuff isn't cheap. But you may can find something here:

http://www.98mauser.com/

They mention scopes.

I have some Yugo 24/47s and one Commercial Zastava, Charles Daly Mauser action that I bought off Gun Broker a couple of years back. I am going to build some rifles on most of these actions. I will save one rifle for my milsurp collection and keep it strictly original. I plan on having a .257 Roberts Ackley Improved built here in the next few days on one of the Yugos and then next year if I have the money I will build a 6mm Remington on another one. Then down the road I want to build a 6.5x57 on another one. The Charles Daly action may become a .375 Ruger. And, my Ruger 77 30-06 may become a 35 Whelen at some point down the road. I already have a Rem. 700 in 30-06 and I don't want two of em. Besides that's what I bought the Ruger used for. It is in excellent condition for being nearly 24 years old. Anyway that's what I'm up to. I wish you luck finding the sniper scope.
Anyway, good luck and I hope you find it.
