I'd wanted to throw a scope on this rifle for a long time. I picked it up about 5 years ago, pristine condition, bore is great, shoots whatever I put into it (Exception of Ecuadorian Surplus that requires double taps in any 8mm rifle it's been in)
Anyways, the thing is a great shooter, I've just come to the realisation over the course of shooting sessions... That I suck with Irons. I've adjusted, read everything I could get my hands on regarding shooting styles, even asked for help from the range officers and shooting friends... I can't keep a consistant grouping no matter what I do. I shoot all over the black at 100 yards with both my 91/30 and my M48 when people who have never touched my rifle can get consistant groupings that put mine to shame.
I had never really fired a scoped rifle until I got a deal on a 91/30 with a PU Scope mount. Groupings in the black with all holes touching. Friend of mine lent me a 1903 Springfield Sniper he has. Again, consistant grouping. I don't know why but I just seem to shoot better with a Scope for some reason
Which brings me to my real problem. The M48 was the first large bore rifle I bought when I turned 18. It has a special place to me and I want to shoot it and shoot it well. The thing is though... I don't want to mark it up, drill or what not, to put a scope on it.
I knew of a websight awhile back that used to make a mount for Mausers, popped out the rear sight like a scout mount but this one had a bar that would go back over the action and let you use a regular style scope. No bending of the bolt, no drill tap... However the link I used to have is dead, This is a picture of it from SurplusRifle.com
Does anyone know of a similar style mount for the Mausers or am I pretty much relegated to the Scout method if I don't want to permanently alter this rifle?
Thanks in advance everyone
