M4gery hate

I don't think all the users of the term M4ergy dislike the gun. Rather, it's their attempt to dress up their AR to be GI Joe like. The term has become a part of the AR venacular.

From dictionary.com:

From Merriam-Webster online:

Mute, the Merriam-Webster's entry was interesting and relevant when it was posted by Tech Brute!

Takes someone that's really sure of himself to tell Marriam-Webster that they don't know the english language. [sic]
I thought we were allowed to correct the experts on this forum. Or is that just when the expert says that the Second Amendment protects a collective right?

No degree in English, but I can still tell Merriam-Webster's a thing or two,

fistful

Not only did we derail from the high road, but we managed to slip out of the rather broad cover of 'gun-related' subject matter. Wowza (probably not in any of the above dictionaries) !

My M4gery has an optic......

It used to have 2+iron sights, but boy was it beefy :( . Now it simply has the red scope on the flat-top. I will add a BUIS when money allows. I can either play dress up with my M4gery and deck it out in ACOGS,aimpoints, free-float tubes, and rails or or use my spending change to actually shoot the dang thing, but not both :( ......

PS I just felt left out so I had to add to the M4gery thread. M4A1,IMHO, the worlds most effective/versitlile SMG/assualt rifle, period! Don't agree? Prove me wrong ;) !

I have seen the references to m4gery and a bit of hate towards them.

I was just wondering why? Does this go with the whole Mall Ninja/"Tacti-cool" thought line?

For me, I see an M4gery as an semiauto AR-15 patterned rifle dressed up to look like an M4 select fire rifle. I don't see this term as being hateful per se. It's just describing a relatively common pattern for shooters who want to look super "Mall ninja, tacti-cool". Or just shooters who find the accessories to be amusing.

Hey, if they want to spend big bucks, it's their wallet. My female friends have "educated" me not to insult or question the need for "accessories" of any kind, on fear of my life. I think they were merely refering to shoes, but I take no chances. ;)

I don't really care for the M16/AR-15 family in general. The direct gas system is the primary reason. Secondary reason is the 5.56mm round. In reality, both work well enough to get the job done. I definitely prefer the M16A2 over the M4 when I only have a choice between the two. M16A2 has longer range, higher velocities.

The AR15 pattern rifle does have issues with environmental concerns. I noticed my M16A2 had issues during really cold weather. (Firing during a blizzard.) I dislike the difficulty in thoroughly cleaning the fire control group, short of removing the entire group. The first M16A2 that I put more than 9,000 rounds through developed problems. My groupings started opening up, and the weapon got rather tempermental. A new upper fixed the problem. I admit, it was nice to be able to replace the entire upper receiver in about five seconds.

The M16/M4 family does well enough. After firing many other rifles, however, I know that better exists. Gods, I wish I could get my hands on a G36. THOSE took a beating and never even hiccup'd. My grouping at 250m with a G36 looked like my 100m grouping with an M16A2.

Wasn't someone able to get the G36's trunion to melt?

The G36 lacks the ergonomic advantages of a telescoping stock.

I think you'll find accuracy of examples of issue service rifles to vary. Unless you get a large sample of each, making accuracy conclusions will be meaningless.

We know that the AR15/M16 family has the potential for excellent accuracy.

I recall hearing from an old Marine on another board- he said to judge the M-16 against the M-14 fairly, one must have experience with both. The M-16 is a great match rifle. It's just not the combat rifle a M-14 is. Myself, for general purpose, I skipped right over the M16/AR15 family and went Garand and it suits me fine.

Check All That Apply

X Some people hate the AR because of it's gas system.
X Others hate the AR because of it's 5.56 round.
_ Some hate black rifles in general.
_ Still others hate all things "tactical".

I've never been able to get a G36 to melt. I did get it to the point where it was burning my hands. I don't think it's likely to fire it to melting point by shooting with bare hands.

Then again, I learned that rapid fire isn't always a great idea after I managed to overheat an AK to the point that I have a burn mark on my index finger from the trigger overheating. Plus the time I accidently melted a barrel on a belt fed. "Red means stop, Private" Doh.
