I have seen the references to m4gery and a bit of hate towards them.
I was just wondering why? Does this go with the whole Mall Ninja/"Tacti-cool" thought line?
For me, I see an M4gery as an semiauto AR-15 patterned rifle dressed up to look like an M4 select fire rifle. I don't see this term as being hateful per se. It's just describing a relatively common pattern for shooters who want to look super "Mall ninja, tacti-cool". Or just shooters who find the accessories to be amusing.
Hey, if they want to spend big bucks, it's their wallet. My female friends have "educated" me not to insult or question the need for "accessories" of any kind, on fear of my life. I think they were merely refering to shoes, but I take no chances.
I don't really care for the M16/AR-15 family in general. The direct gas system is the primary reason. Secondary reason is the 5.56mm round. In reality, both work well enough to get the job done. I definitely prefer the M16A2 over the M4 when I only have a choice between the two. M16A2 has longer range, higher velocities.
The AR15 pattern rifle does have issues with environmental concerns. I noticed my M16A2 had issues during really cold weather. (Firing during a blizzard.) I dislike the difficulty in thoroughly cleaning the fire control group, short of removing the entire group. The first M16A2 that I put more than 9,000 rounds through developed problems. My groupings started opening up, and the weapon got rather tempermental. A new upper fixed the problem. I admit, it was nice to be able to replace the entire upper receiver in about five seconds.
The M16/M4 family does well enough. After firing many other rifles, however, I know that better exists. Gods, I wish I could get my hands on a G36. THOSE took a beating and never even hiccup'd. My grouping at 250m with a G36 looked like my 100m grouping with an M16A2.
