Is the survival rifle, going to yaknow Survive? I know CZ made them for Springfield for awhile, and then they went away and everyone was talking about Henry but nothing seems to be happening.

I've got an unhealthy itch to buy a M6, and cant believe like even no small mom and pop operation picked it up. it -cant- be difficult to produce.

I guess we're the only ones really interested in getting this rifle. I'd love to get one as soon as they come back into production, if they do.

You are not the only ones...

I have a SS 22H/410 and like it for what it is... Check the prices on gunbroker and you will see they are pretty popular now that they stopped building them. $550-650 for a NIB or near NIB SS 22 hornet/410 and up to $450 for the parkerized ones.

I imagine someone will offer either new manufactured oned or a similar concept rifle combo that you can pick the calibers to some extent. They would sell alot of them...

I would love a stainless or parkerized one in .22lr/.410, but not at those prices! I seem to recall that when Springfield was importing these the MSRP was $375 or so for the park'd version, and $425 for the stainless?

I have a 22 hornet over 410 in stainless. My son loves it.

Keep your eye out for one...

If you want one. They occasionally turn up in pawn shops and smaller gun shops. I paid $212 + shipping & transfer for mine, new in box with all papers. Saw one locally for 275 in stainless 22lr/410 2 weeks ago. Sold now though...
I wouldn't mind another one in 22 lr with a red dot scope for permanant car gun.

Be safe.

The rifle really isn't the greatest as a plinker, and you can get a much better 22LR for the same money. I agree that 22 hornet makes more sense for a survival gun, but it's far more expensive to shoot. The nice thing about the M6 is that it is small enough for a child to use, and so simple that there's virtually nothing to go wrong.

It really is a great survival rifle, and has little use outside that role. But they are cool. First thing I did way rip of that Lawyer mandated trigger guard. I've thought about getting a real M6, with 14 incg barrels, but it would be a pain to atke interstate. At least it falls into the rifle/shotgun combo like the Marble Game Getter, so it's only a $5 transfer tax.

Here's an interesting site about adding utility to your M6.

I think sprinfield still makes it, I see it come up at the houston gunshows now and again, but the rare one, that i've only seen maybe twice, is the 22 hornet/410 version. I would really like that baby.

The M6 was made in the Czech Republic for SA. They no longer catalog the gun. Suppsedly serveral companies were going to pick it up: H&R or Henry. No joy. If you find one, better buy it. There may never be more.

There are a few on gunbroker. It looks like the going rate for NIB is around $400.

The Savage 24 is a great rifle and more accurate...

But as a "keepitinthepackkuzitissimpleandlightandIcantossitinoffthecliffintheriveranditwillstillprollyshootacritterforthepot" sort of rifle/shotgun, I still prefer the M6. I am wanting to take it in the treestand this year just because... If I get a good head shot at about 25 yards or less I will put meat in the freezer. Yep, not the best tool for the job but here in AR it is at least legal...

Remember the origional M-6 was a "disposable" firearm, made to fold in half and fit in ejection seat survival kits. The trigger was designed so you could fire it while wearing mittens.

Even a 24C seems big next to an M6. I have one of each. On points, the 24C wins, unless compactness and light weight matter, and that is where the M6 shines. On top of that, it's a hoot to shoot.

Well, my 20" 20 gauge side by side will break down and store in my pack and, while it's a little heavier than the M6, it's also more effective as a game getter. Of course, it doesn't have a rifle barrel. Gotta carry slugs and keep ranges to 50-75 yards, but it'll take big game in a pinch. But, no, it ain't stainless.

But, there are alternatives in survival to the M6 and I never really had a thing for that gun anyway. I have an AR7, okay for a .22, but I'd rather have my Spartan along for emergencies. Then, there's the Marlin Papoose that could do the survival thing. Of course, a TC with a .45 colt/.410 barrel could fill the survival roll, too.

But, back when, if I'd known M6s were going to be worth 400 bucks, I'd stocked up. LOL Of course, I'd bought microsoft and Harley Davidson and......

I read the thinking behind that funky trigger set up was that it was easily fired with heavy winter gloves in arctic survival. That makes a lot of sense for military and bush pilots, I reckon. I can see the value in one of the things for survival kits. That's what they were designed for, after all.
