On the recommendation of THR members I bought the “Standard Catalog of Smith and Wessonâ€, it is the Second edition (2001 printing date). Armed with this knowledge I went to a few of the local gun shops, one that I had never been to before and one that I had been to and had had a negative experience (but I was just window shopping and that doesn’t make them any money).
I just got back from Iraq, so I have some per-diem money in the bank to burn. I want to get a smallish revolver and I was looking for a M36 or a M60. The second gun shop that I went to “Knight’s Shooting Sports and Indoor Range†was really nice. They mainly focused on “bottom feeders†and only had a few wheel guns. The prices seemed to be a little high, but I haven’t bought a new gun in a while and I wasn’t ready to dicker (as I am still shopping around). The first shop, the one that I had had a bad experience in previously (employees loudly bashing cops and speaking about strippers and hookers in front of my young son) had 2 M60-4 with 3 inch full lug barrels and adjustable sights. I took a look at them and although there were surface scuffs and scratches they seemed to be in good shape. (I used the Jim March check out system…. Thanks Jim). I really liked them and while coveting one severely, I promised CinC House (the wife) that I wouldn’t buy any thing today. I quickly ran out to the truck to consult the “Bookâ€. They were priced higher than the NIB price quoted in the book. I am sure that I can bargain them down as these pieces have been sitting there for a while.
Should I swallow my pride for a good gun... I didn't rasie a stink when they were so rude, I just quietly left. The guys that were so rude were not there and I don't know if they work there any more.
Some more random questions… Can I get speed loaders for a 5-shot J frame? Who makes a good IWB holster for these odd beasts? Any thing that I should look out for on a M60-4? Thanks for the help.
