I don't have $7000 plus the required time and tax stamp to buy an M79 but was wondering if anybody here knows where a 37mm flare only version might be found. There are a couple copies out there but none really fit with the M79 styling very well. I'd really like to get an authentic looking piece that I can have a little fun with on the side.

I would start with a real, true milspec M79 receiver as sold here:

A destructive device receiver is sold as a title one firearm. I know this sounds weird but its true. So you don’t have to go through all the class 3 stuff until your ready.

The receiver will be your big investment for this project. Once you purchase the receiver you can begin purchasing all the small parts for the receiver as you have the money. M79 parts are very common. You shouldn’t have any problem finding them. Once you have all your parts except for the barrel you can either register the receiver as a DD and add a 40mm barrel. Or simply purchase a 37mm barrel and skip the $200 tax. Either way you will have a true M79.

Randy Shivak sells 37mm M-79 barrels mr40mm.com is his site. They are Mil Spec OD, and you'll need the other barrel parts to finish it. GROG
