So next time I'm at the range w/ an AK should I be bare-footed while shooting
so I don't get charged with constructive possession for wearing shoes?

Source please...

You never heard of the ATF Shoestring Letter? Where have you been?

FWIW the ATF reversed this decision a year or so ago. So yes, for about ten years a shoestring was considered a machine gun per the ATF.

tried to find the ruling but couldn't. Not too long ago, the BATFE (or whatever they call themselves these days) recently ruled that bump firing is in fact illegal, trigger devices such as the GAT (hand crank) trigger, Hellfire trigger, Akins Accelerator (that one was decided awhile ago I believe), etc etc they are all now considered to be ILLEGAL.

I'd have to see the cite before I believe this. I think you are confusing a couple differeing things here.

The Atkins Accelerator was approved at first and then the ATF turned around and changed their minds. So, your right on that one.

The "shoestring is a MG" thing is an old case. Modifying a gun with ANYTHING, even a shoestring, to make it fire full auto is illegal.

There has been nothing to make unassisted "bump firing" illegal though.

Also, the ATF has long held that gatling gun type devices are legal because only one round is fired every time the trigger is pulled. The crank just lets you pull the trigger faster.

I'm active on several NFA weapons boards and I'm aware of these issues. If the ATF had ruled that gatling gun cranks or bump firing were illegal, I'd have heard of it.

(Now, some guys are saying that since the Atkins Accelerator is illegal, that, by extension, any bump firing is illegal. I don't buy that and most other people don't either)
