Made In Brazil?

Personally

I've been rather underwhelmed by Springfield. Of all the 1911s I've shot, I've liked the Colts the most (I've actually never owned a 1911). I must also admit that the only 1911 I've ever had malfunction on me was a 1800 dollar custom job. I love it. "Here, try my new badass 1800 dollar custom 1911" and then the damn thing chokes on the first mag. :neener:

Taurus was a sister company of S&W. Also, the factory is a former Barreta factory with Baretta machinery. I have 2 Rossi Cyclopses (Cyclopi?) and never had a problem, however, a friend of mine had a problem with a Taurus 44mag. Something broke after rapid firing some hot-loads. The gun was maybe 3-4 months old. The gun was sent in and returned fixed in under 2 weeks. No problems since.. of course, he didn't try to rapid fire some hot loads again either...
One more thing about Taurus: they are ISO 9000 certified. That doesn't prove they have the absolute highest quality, but they are definitely commited to trying to achieve it.

Hey Greg, I made a similar assessment about the arms industry in the Philippines, using similar terminology & socio-economic data..
In my case, instead of a free pass, I was called a lot of unflattering names...

Manufactures

Spend some time checking out where your gun really comes from. One high end 1911 company located in the East has a variance from the ATF to not stamp the country of origin on their guns. Others buy everything from someone and stamp their name on it along with some 3rd. world dump. Buy U.S.A. made 1911's.

If you paid $1800 for that, you overpaid. Some of you got the balls to say that my HK is overpriced. How is it overpriced for a gun that is 100% made in Germany, out of the box reliability for less than $800? :) I expect nothing by perfection for $1800.

I still think you overpaid for something that is made in Brazil for some $800. Yeah I got suckered into that for my SA 1911 too, but no more.

I can only put the first 5 rounds in my taurus 357..... But it only holds 5 rounds. Delivers them on target too. I've had luck with taurus. But, I've had luck with S&W and Ruger as well. Guess I just never got stuck with a lemon.

For those of you who insist that IMBEL of Brazil can't make a quality gun, simply because they're in Brazil I'd watch my words. I'm not an expert, but I trust that gunsmith Ted Yost of Yost-Bonitz is. I doubt they would be using Springfield Armory GI model 1911s as the base for their $1400+ custom guns if they weren't quality. IMBEL makes a licensed FAL as well, it's is well regarded amongst it's peers (other non-Belgian FALs). Mundial of Brazil is also known for making very high quality forged steel kitchen cutlery at the price point of stamped blades from the big German makers. They have widespread poverty and low literacy, but the Brazilians have proven that they can run steel forges very well.

I love my Brazilian springers, but this is really cheesy:

Did they do that with a handheld electric engraving pen or what?

I've never owned a 1911

That what friends are for.

HKs are overpriced too.

So you're willing to buy something just because it's made in Germany? I've got an RG10 I'll cut you a hell of deal on. Way less than an HK. How's $350 sound?
:neener:

Isn't the P22 made in Germany?

I love when people bash foreign guns. Seriously, I hate communism, socialism, and all their cousins, but what makes a lot of their firearms great, is that they were built to endure extreme conditions. "Oh, the chinese steel!". "Oh those lazy Brazillians!". "Oh those...um... Croations!" Seriously, folks, do you really think the Italians in the Beretta factory are really THAT much more quality control concious? The fact is the communists made copies of American and each other's machinery. Unless the guns are custom made in a factory for you, they still roll off an assembly line.

I agree with tenbase, the dime-store ID bracelet vibrator engraving is cheesy. That being said, I love my Stainless Loaded. It is soooo purty, and after 5-7000 rds. it has proven to be both accurate and reliable.

That Imbel logo appears to be made by a pin stamp machine. Sort of like a dot matrix printer. Only it's a dot matrix puncher.
