Kind of wish this was the "Hunting/trekking/hiking/exploring/scouting" section. !!! So okay, I was scouting for next fall's hunts!

Crummy pic, wife's phone. Anyhow, made it up to the mountains this/last week. Last year, this same spot, same date, NO SNOW. The cricks were running like crazy, some were, or would have been very hard to cross. It was crazy. Got my truck and big camper trailer kind of stuck in the mud, but my partner pulled it out easy with his rig as he was able to stay on the not-mud. But he had to un-hook his camper first, so it was typical early in the mountains muddy conditions type fun.

Did some hiking/trekking/exploring, looking for some nice spots to take my sleeping bag and hide out for a couple of days this summer and play bush-craft. Found a nice one, way off any trail or road, with a crick nearby. Old cedar forest. Took the dirt bike and did some riding too. And, found lots of mushrooms.

My trekking weapons of choice for this trip was my $50 dollar SMLE "sporter", aka "English Stalking Rifle", and my Model 1860 "Sheriff's Model" Colt for a side-arm.

The still snowy-mountains say: "thanks for listening"!!!

Lots of tradeoffs with geography. Temps hit 95 here today with about 80% humidity. I did manage to get in about 30 miles on my bike before it got too hot, but hiking in the forest is not a good idea here right now. On clear established trails yea, but with the snakes and undergrowth I don't like it in the bush right now.

Of course January and February are probably pretty cold there and near perfect here. Deer season ends in early January, but squirrel season is open here until the end of February. I spend a lot of time knocking around in the woods during those 2 months. I carry a 22 or a shotgun, but I'm not serious about hunting. Just woods bumming.

We've visited areas of the Rockies at this time of year and it is near perfect for things like that. We took my oldest grand daughter to Colorado 3 years ago. She was simply amazed to see snow still on the ground in June.

My wife and grand daughter just outside Silverton at a restroom.

Looks like a nice quiet place to be. What part of the world are you in?

This was in the NorthEast corner of Washington State, right next to Idaho and Canada. About 80 miles from home. If you get bored and want to take a google earth tour, we were camped kind of at the base of Monumental Mountain, and the Molybedenite ridge. LeClarc crick, Harvey Crick. (and in the Harvey Crick Grizzly recovery area. !!!) We saw no one else up there. Nice and quiet. Huckleberry season gets a little busy, doesn't really get hunted very heavy these days, wolves have thinned the game out.

Yeah, Colorado sees a "little bit" of snow! But it's always kind of a thrill after I haven't seen any for three months or so, and then shazam I'm walking in it. ! Found a patch of it in Idaho in July one year. That was different.

You make me jealous. I spent most of the day at my reloading bench in my shop sweltering, chugging cold water, on a “feels like” 106f Arkansas day. I would have happily rolled in the yellow snow.

We had a heat wave like that last summer, lasted for weeks. We sweltered! So yeah, didn't mind the snow. Guess I better get some bullets and balls cast up while the getting is good. Or...not so hot.
