Made 100 rounds and I had 6 screw ups. I the ones that are side ways are because I was using the lee hand press and had it slanted.

I wonder if those will shoot around corners?

Welcome to the club…keep posting here…there are lots and LOTS of very knowledgable folks to bounce ideas off of and to learn from. Nobody yet has written a book with as much info as this forum has in it.

On the lee primer tool, new ones are not as good as the old from what people say. I have an old one. The rcbs tool is similar and they get a lot of good reviews. I would probably go that way with a hand primer if I were in the market.

check primer depth with your finger

The manuals say the primers should be seated 3 to 5 thou below the base, or something like that. Seated depth varies somewhat depending on primer and case brand.

Learn to swipe each seated primer with your thumb or index finger, immediately before placing the primed case in the case block. If the primer is too high, you'll know right away. After awhile, your fingers will 'know' what proper seated depth feels like.

If you hand prime, you will also develop the feel that leads to consistent priming.

I don't know if I got use to the hand priming tool or it just broke in but I haven't had a crooked primer for some time now so hang in there. I put my primed casings in the storage cases primer side up. Helps to see if I made a mistake or not.
