I don't know about reliability issues, etc., but this looks like it could be a cool little fun gun, maybe it could be effective for snake control.

But, SOG says "No sales to CA"

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I see nothing whatsoever that defines this as an "Assault weapon" under CA law, and I'm unaware of any other law that could pertain to this

Here's from the "assault weapon" identification guide of the CA Attorney General's website.

12276.1 (a) Notwithstanding Penal Code section 12276, "assault weapon" shall also mean the following...

...Shotguns
(6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
(A) A folding or telescoping stock.
(B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or
vertical handgrip.
(7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
(8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

It's not banned by name, either.

As far as I can tell, that is not a semiautomatic shotgun with A) A folding or telescoping stock or B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or
vertical handgrip.

Nor is it a semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine, or a shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

Am I missing anything here?

Legal issues aside, does anyone have experience with these shotguns? Are they reliable and of general high quality? Are the ergonomics as bad as they look?

These have come up on the board before. They do not take standard ammo, but a special 2" shell. Not a good idea.....

Yeah, but isn't that the same as the Aguila minishells? If so, those are fairly easy to get...

Combat-wombat,

You got me on that one, it sure isn't a semiautomatic shotgun, that's for sure.

Perhaps SOG, being a privately owned and operated company has decided not to ship to California on their own accord. If that's the case, then it's their party and they can cry if they want to.

To ANSWER your questions, I don't think you're missing anything in regards to legality (don't quote me on that).

I have absolutely NO experience with them, which means my replies for your other questions are "I don't know", which are themselves answers. :neener:

I'd understand if SOG altogether just didn't ship to CA, but they ship every other CA-legal gun here, so I thought it was weird that the MAG-7 wasn't.

Maybe asking SOG would be worthwhile. They could be laboring under the mistaken impression that ALL mag-fed shotguns are verboten, instead of just semi-auto. You could always email CADOJ as well; they're usually somewhat helpful.

SOG has a policy of not sending "scary" guns to California, or guns they think would be appealing to criminals, because they're afraid of getting sued. Check it out for yourself, a lot of guns that are legal in CA, they won't ship.
