I'm a Kydex/plastic guy myself and have been on the look out for a single stack 9mm pouch.

So far all I've found is loose fitting pouches that don't secure the mag. The Versa Clip mag holders look to be a viable option and if I can find one I will probably be getting one. Hard to find around here though, they apparently are popular.

So does anyone have any experience with tight fitting plastic mag holders other than the Versa line?

I really don't want to side track this thread but since you brought it up, although it's comfortable for the user I'm not sold on the retention of leather.

All my other gear is Kydex and I'd prefer to keep it that way for now.

These work great, only downside is they stick out A LITTLE more than leather.

Interestingly, Bill Wilson also uses that BlackHawk pouch.

On the other hand, there is no retention adjustment on those pouches. If they don't fit to your liking you need to take some heat to them to adjust the fit.

The late Paul Gomez take on carry gear. He prefers leather for holsters and kydex for mag pouches, for the retention advantages. Unlike the BlackHawk pouch above, most kydex pouches can be had with a retention screw.

Paul Gomez carry gear (edited to add: he comments on kydex vs leather beginning around 4:45 into the video)

I have a Dale Fricke mag pouch that is very good. You can order them IWB/OWB/vertical/horizontal/appendix/strong side/etc. One other key feature is he molds the belt loop (on molded loop models) for either a thin belt like the Wilderness Instructor belt or a thicker leather belt. You lose a little flexibility, but get a better fit.

There are lots and lots of others.

A side note on my Fricke pouch. The fit is so good, I have to adjust it slightly when changing from my stainless steel mags to my blued mags. I don't have many blued mags, so I have the pouch set up for the stainless mags, but the pouch needs the screw loosened a bit to get the same fit with the blued mags.

Might want to check with some of the custom makers. Not sure what the cost is for mag carriers, but it beats muddling along with so-so or poor over the counter stuff if it isn't working as youd like.

The fit and retention is where the difference starts to become apparent in average gun shop gear and better quality holsters and support gear. Leather is very good in higher quality equipment. If one shops price primarily, they shouldn't feel too let down if the quality and functionality isn't top grade.

I use a cell phone case for the 12 round double stack mag for my Taurus PT111 G2. It fits perfectly and you can use either the belt loop or clasp. It is made of heavy cloth and works of me. I bought it at Lowes a couple of years ago.

Update:

I appreciate the responses.

I ended up trying one of the Versa clips. It concealed very well but the base plate of the mag was very uncomfortable against my side even with a tucked in shirt. So it got returned. Depending on how your mags base is designed it could be an option.

I ended up going with the Blackhawk mentioned above. I had seen this mag holder many times before but brushed it off due to the width of the holder viewed from the packaging. I thought there was no way that would securely hold a single stack. Well last weekend just for the heck of it I grabbed one off the rack and asked the guy behind the counter at my LGS if he could grab an LC9 mag and check the fit. Low and behold there was a spring on the inside that pushed the mag towards the outer wall of the mag holder. I guess the manufacturer used the same mold for single and double stacks just with different springs.

Anyway I've been wearing it this week and so far am very pleased. Good retention, carries well and conceals decently enough.I would recommend it for anyone looking for a inexpensive plastic mag holder.

I've used a Leatherman pouch (for the Wave and similar models) for the spare for my PT145 before. The Coyote MUT pouch on my vest does double duty for the same mag at the range. (The Leatherman is usually right on the bench.)

I use one of the Blackhawk ones for a 1911 mag, works great.

I got mine (3) as a value route when I started shooting IDPA...everything I'd had before were double pouches and they just weren't working.

The Blackhawk work surprisingly well and will retain your mags through some pretty vigorous movement. My only objection to them is that they cover so much of the mag body and I have to compromise my grip on the draw a bit
