It’s very important that you make these calls. We realize that you’ve been called upon to act many times so far this year. But your continued support is crucial.

1. Call your state representative and politely tell them you are a law-abiding gun owner who objects to magazine bans. Politely advise them to vote NO on Amendment 12 – the magazine ban. If you do not know who your state representative is, then the Illinois State Board of Elections has a new interactive search page here:

2. Post this alert to any and all Internet Bulletin Boards or blogs to which you subscribe.

3. Pass this alert on to your friends and family and ask them to call their legislators as well.

Everyone should call their reps, now if possible, but hopefully before 12:00 noon because the representatives will be on the Floor of the House at 12:00 CST. As bad as Illinois is - we don't have a magazine ban / firearm capacity limit, but that could all change today.

Amend 47 to HB1155 - a registration scheme for sales failed

Amend 48 to HB1155 - a scheme that requires a person to train with the specific firearm they carry and only carry a firearm they have been qualified on - failed

Amend 49 to HB1155 - limited people to just one CCW failed

Amendment 52 to HB1155 that creates a system that triggers a "may issue" hearing by LEA based on arrests (not convictions) - passed

I think they sensed that they couldn't get the mag ban done today and it didn't come up for a vote.

Madigan now knows that there is support for banning firearms at places that primariliy serve alcohol and there is support for setting up a "may issue" system for people that have had 5 arrests.

Interestingly enough - the 5 arrest thing would trigger a may issue hearing for the Reverend Jesse Jackson (if he wanted a gun). It would also trigger a may issue hearing on people who have been arrested but not convicted during protests or any other kind of thing you could imagine.

ISRA is still asking people to call their representatives.

Excerpt of an update from NRA lobbyist Todd Vandermyde

Staff had indicated late Monday that the magazine ban would be part of the special order on firearms on Tuesday. Your calls and our lobbying efforts thwarted that as they did not call the ban for a second vote. We believe they failed to call it because your calls are making the difference and they are still short votes.

While leadership is attempting to twist arms to find votes, your calls and emails are making the difference. Keep it up. We know that hearing that there is an impending vote at any minute, gets to be frustrating only to have the vote not take place. But such is the nature of the beast that we are forced to deal with. Chicago politicians control the process and can move things at a moment’s notice. All we can do is try to keep you, the members, informed as to the latest happenings at the capitol.

The fact that they schedule the magazine ban for a vote then don't follow through is a testament to your effectiveness and fact that you are among the most dedicated Second Amendment supporters in the country. The fact that you have held back the Chicago machine should be a badge of honor.

Keep it up and keep making those calls. Together we will prevail.

House adjourned - meaning the antis figured out they didn't have the votes (yet) to push more gun control bills and didn't expose their amendments to defeat.

There are more than a dozen anti-gun amendments and bills waiting in the wings, including 2 magazine bans.

They'll try to regroup, see where money needs to be allocated and pressure applied, but this is very encouraging because they've been racking up losses on the gun issue since January.

The only thing they have to show for it is support for some kind of provision prohibiting guns in places that primarily make their income from alcohol and a provision that would cause an automatic "may issue" hearing for people applying for CWP that have had 5 arrests (but not convictions).

Rumor is that the desire for mag bans is actually coming from Chicago City Hall - it's something that Rahm Emanual wants to see happen.

The Speaker of the House Mike Madigan has turned this in to a long-drawn out protracted battle.

There several anti-2A amendments and bills waiting in the wings - including 2 mag ban provisions.

It looks like one thing that anti's will try today is pass legislation that would fine law-abiding gun owners $10,000 for allowing their FOID to expire.

Considering that the ISP currently has an estimated 75,000 person backlog for fulfilling FOID applications, and it's taking anywhere from 90 to 150 days for people to get their FOID cards - this is just another attack on law-abiding gun owners.

The ISRA is asking people to call their reps right away and ask them to oppose HB2265

Don't think the FOID backlog isn't intentional. Imagine a future where they only get to a few hundred foid applications a year. Yes you have the legal right to own a gun...just have to apply and wait...years. eventually they'll increase the FOID fee to a prohibitive level. What a mess you all have there. At least you got concealed carry...sort of.

I heard a rumor the NRA was contemplating suing the ISP for not processing FOID applications within the legal time limit. Anyone know if this is true?

By state law the ISP has 30 days for FOID applications,,,,,,,but when they made the law there was no penelty for noncomplience.
