I need to get a couple of magazine pouches to use at a competition I participate in. I have never used magazine pouches before. These would be used with a S&W M&P CORE 9mm Pro Series.

Any recommendations would be appreciated, especially those that I can purchase on line, say at Midway or Cabela's etc.

Not knowing details, I can only say I shoot IDPA and some USPSA with my IDPA gear.
I have mostly Ready Tactical Kydex gear. NOTE: I shoot with the maker.

There are many others, Blade Tech is pretty much the Daddy of the type.

Two singles give you more flexibility than a double on where you locate your ammo. Will two be enough?

Another alternative would be a cheap nylon pouch IF you use it like Jeff Cooper said to do with a GI web pouch:
Fold the flaps back under your belt out of the way and drop a couple of cartridges in to space the magazines up higher for an easy grab.

I like those Blade Tech ones shown above. Two should be enough. Do the ones shown in you post require a tactical or some kind of special belt?

To give you a little background, the gun range I shoot at has a bowling pin shoot a couple times per month that I participate in. For iron sight guns, you get 5 bowling pins on a table, the shooter has 2 magazines with 6 rounds in each. If you have a red dot/RMR site, it's 6 pins with 2 magazines of 7 rounds. 22's have there own set up, not sure what that is, I don't have one.

Jim:

Is that Blade Tech Eclipse pouch for outside the waste band or inside?

I noticed that most mag pouches require a minimum 1 1/2 inch belt. I have a 1 1/4 inch belt at home that is very similar to a gun belt although it is not. Is this going to be problematic or should I go ahead and get a 1 1/2 inch one. What kind of issues could arise by using 1 1/4? This is for competition not self defense

I use 2x2 modified molle pouches. I cut the flap off and the elastic holds the magazines in just fine.
My belt is a double layer Bullhide I've had over 10 years.
Holster is a Desantis Speed Scabbard.

I use Blade-Tech mag carriers, ordered direct from Blade-Tech. On a recent order I got 2 day delivery in WA. As to belts, I'd get a 1-1/2" stiff belt for holding my holster and mags. I use both nylon and leather Galco belts, ordered from Galco.

Two issues regarding a 1.25" vs 1.5" and non-gun belt belts vs gun belts

1. With a 1.25" belt, you may have the pouch slide around on your belt some - making the position of the pouch on the belt not consistent. This probably isn't an issue for the casual shooter, though I suspect this would bother serious competitors.

2. Non-gun belts are often thinner, though a Wilderness Instructor Belt ( https://www.thewilderness.com/belts/ ) is pretty thin. If you have a clip on pouch, like some of the Comp-Tac models ( https://www.comp-tac.com/twin-mag-pouch-belt-clip ), and you don't have your belt tightened enough, you may not have enough belt thickness for the pouch clip to stay on the belt and you may pull the pouch off the belt when you pull the mag. This will not be a problem with a pouch with loops and not a clip.

If you're shopping for gear, a belt is the foundation for carry gear, and it may be to your advantage to just go ahead and get yourself a 1.5" gun belt since the 1.5" is the default size for most carry gear. The Wilderness Tactical, either the Instructor or Frequent Flyer models, in either 5-stitch or CSM versions would be a good starting point. They are well respected belts and are fairly inexpensive.

In photo #2, the Blade-Tech Signature is shown with a Tek-Lok attachment https://blade-tech.com/products/tek-lok

I believe that model of pouch can use a variety of Blade-Tech mounts.

I have one product with a Tek-Lok attachment. I'm not a big fan of it, but then I haven't used the Total Eclipse or Comp-Tac clips shown, so I couldn't tell you if it was better or worse than those two.

I am not a fan of the tek-loc on widerish (probably not really a word) attachments, like double mag pouches. The tec-loc tends to let the item wobble back and forth on the belt. An attachment method like in picture one does a better job of preventing this kind of movement.

Edit To Add: The Blade Tech ASR mount looks stable and adjustable. It is an attachment option for the Signature Double Magazine Pouch.
