I just ordered up a magnetospeed V3. Brownells had them for like $280 which is the best price Ive seen . That may have been dealer price though as they still have me on file as an FFL holder. ( I just confirmed. That is dealer price. $399 normal ) In any case has anyone used one of these for load development?

Sometimes I want to shoot my Chrony. Sometimes I do. This will be nice at least from a setup time and convenience point as long as it works.

I have a V2 and it works perfectly IF you set it up exactly as instructed. The distance under the barrel is critical. They supply all the shims you need to do it right. Take the time to set it up right and it works flawlessly for me on several different rifles. read the instructions exactly, do as it says. This from experience.

I'm surprised brownells didn't require you to sign some non disclosure about their wholesale prices. I would think most dealers (including the one that sold you the RPR in dec) would think their prices, and hence, their margins are sensitive and not something they want published on the internet, because then everyone knows how much they make.

the magnetospeed is an excellent product

That was 20 years ago I signed up with them. Its been at least 10 that I havent been a dealer so I'm surprised i'm still on their books to be honest. Most of the time they don't offer much of a discount. Sometimes its pretty substantial. They used to put the real price in the part number i.e. 5462211099 would be $10.99 dealer cost but I imagine that got hard to track . At some point in the last decade they stopped doing that. In any case I don't recall of any non disclose with them and they offer the same discounts to any FFL class including C&R and apparently for life..

The dealer that sold me the RPR didnt do me any favors.

I have a V1 MagnetoSpeed. Basically the same as yours with an earlier digital unit. Works great and I have found it to be very easy to use on the range. I use it for all my serious load work-ups.

I havent gotten into it much as I havent received the unit yet but I guess theres an app you can download that works with the microphone/aux port on your phone to let you log data on a smart phone. Sounds pretty cool. From what I gather they sell a kit for $25 to attach to the phone which is really just a double ended male 3.5mm phone plug cord.

I went with the V3 so I could attach it to a silencer. I guess the V1 won't let you do that.

One of the best purchases I ever made. They do need a thicker spacer for ultra-light/pencil barrels however. Doubling them up without screws is less stable.

Mike

For those who would like a Magnetospeed but don't need some of the functions of the V3, I can confirm that the Sporter works just as well. If you don't need to mount it to a pistol, attach to a suppressor/silencer, or have a heavy contoured barrel then the Sporter will work just fine and will save you a lot of money.

I agree 100% with Mike, the Magnetospeed is one of the best items I've purchased. Works brilliant in all weather conditions and gives you much needed information if you need to develop a drop chart for any distance shooting beyond 100m.

The Magnetospeed is far easier to use with rifles than with handguns. It will work with longer-barreled revolvers, but the problem comes when you want to unload a cylinder and the unit is in the way. On single-actions, the ejector rod becomes unusable due to the strap going around the rod housing. It also takes some time to get used to setting it up and finding the right combination of spacers. That said, it works well and I shoot primarily at ranges that don't have the right lighting to use a standard chrony, so my options are limited. All in all, I'd buy it again.
