If you had to duel a BG to the death and you had to pick either a .500 Magnum or any .22 auto or revolver of your choice, and the BG gets the other gun you didn't pick, which you you choose?

The Magnum 500 holds 5 rounds

The .22 of your choice must have a 10 round maximum magazine (the hypothetical duel takes place in California) if it's an auto. You can have spare magazines, and/or speed loaders for both guns, whichever is legal to carry.

I'll take the magnum at 50 paces.

No, make that 75 or a hundred paces...

Put all 10 rounds of .22 into him while he's pulling the front sight out of his forehead. 500 recoil is a b1tch!:D

The recoil from a 500 isn't really that bad. If you'd feel confident that you could get a hit with any other revolver, I don't see that the .500 is a bad choice, as long as you aren't worried about concealment. I'd take the .500 at any distance.

Gorblimey. A duel in this day and age? A .22 verus a .500?
The one who wins is the one who manages to land his shots right.

He's not saying .22 is the hammer of thor - this must be the Anti-Gunkid.

You only get one shot in a duel so capacity means nothing. If another shot is needed then both participants reload and continue with the duel. If you break the rules then the seconds shoot the offender.

Sorry for being a snot, but what's the point to this kind of posting?

My only concern with the 500 would be it is slow to get into action

Outside of that I would rather have the 500 cause I only gotta connect once.

Oh to answer the question why posts like this. Cause it is fun once in a while to forget about serious questions and such and let your inner James Bond come out and get freaky with the world.:uhoh:

No offense, but this has to be the most pointless, hypothetical thread I have seen in recent times. That said, I would break the rules and bring an AK47.:D

The .500. I'm large. I'm not a recoil junky, but big magnums actually fit my hands better. DEagles and double stacks are my friends. ;-)

In a duel, you only need to hit them once. If it's to the death, you've got a much better chance of killing your foe with one shot from a .500.

Yes, I know... .22 target pistols and 1/4" groups. You aren't going to have time in a duel. It'll be snap and fire. There will be no proper sight picture, no controled breathing, no "hold it, slow steady squeeze".

If we are talking a true 'duel' (10 paces turn and shoot), I'd take the .500 and throw it at them:neener:

What if the duelists are zombies?

frez,
Could you tell us the purpose of your question, so maybe we can give a better answer?

:banghead: Picture this, FREZ stirring the pot-o'-dodo.
ANYBODY with a 22 will most everytime ( EXCELLENT odds) win against an unarmed intruder. If someone had a knife and brass knucks, I'd promise I could beat them silly with a 10/22, or at least puncture both leg arteries and kneecaps with a 22/45.Heck, forget about a headshot, make them suffer for being soo ignorant. Pistol markmanship is a LOT easier to master than knife throwing. Lot deadlier too.
"Wouldn't you trade the .22 for a knife at least? At least you can throw the knife and it will have more stopping power than a .22", I can throw a heavier pistol for more effect than a knife.

The purpose of this post is "FUN", kind of like "what would you rather have, a bubble gum, or a jawbreaker?" Maybe a bit adolescent but it's just for fun, don't get all bent over it.

The average shooter can put ten .22s on target much easier than one round of .50. However, someone who carries a .500 already knows about the recoil, and probably only needs one shot.

Two strangers picking up random guns, I could have five .22s on target before the other guy found the front sight on the x-frame.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

I will make the assumption the bad guy is a gang member, so it doesn't matter which gun he has - they can only hit innocent bystanders.:neener:

I will still take the 500, the noise will scare him to death.
