I picked up some Federal Small Magnum Pistol Match Primers, that was all that was available,my question is there much if any difference between the two. I have loads worked up with Federal small magnum primers that work well should I work up loads again? I'm loading mostly for 357 mag and 38 special and I am not loading close to max charges.

The only difference between the Match primers and the regular primers from Federal is the Match are inspected and packaged by the more experienced people on the assembly line. There is no physical difference between the two, but the inspection process is more rigorous.

I got this from a Federal rep at the SHOT Show several years ago.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Fred. I read that somewhere nice to hear it from horses mouth. Cabelas had one box left for $32.

Being the cheapskate I am, I would not pay the additional price for match handgun primers as I cannot shoot well enough to see a difference on paper. With match Rifle primers of any type however, I will gladly pay that premium for the long range consistency they add. OP hope your regular primers are back in stock soon.
