Currently I am developing a load for the 7.5 X55 Swiss cartridge using 168 grain Hornady A-Max bullets and Accurate Arms 4350 as the propellant. My question concerns the primers I am using.
I am looking into the possibility of using large magnum rifle primers instead of standard (which is what the Hornady manual calls for). The reason for this is primer availability. My thought is that if I reduce the starting load by 4.2% or so would this offset the higher pressures associated with magnum primers. Does this sound like a safe practice?
I have been using CCI #34 with my .308 Winchester service rifle load for a few years now in place of standard large rifle primers. My understanding is that the CCI #34 is a magnum primer. As far as I can tell this substitution has not resulted in excessive pressure.
