Does Magpul make followers for 20rd Colt AR mags? If not, does anyone would where I can buy some rebuild kits? I had a good day at the swap meet and a few things followed me home.

Thanks.

You might PM Aloharover here on THR. He does sell some Magpul products and I have done business with him before. Good prices Great service!

20 round GI & Colt mags don't need them.

The gray pot-metal followers work as well or better then anything you can replace them with.

Only the curved 30-round mags ever gave any feed issues, and that was with full-auto M16 fire.

30-round MagPul followers can be cut off to work in 20 round mags, but it is a waste of time & money!

I'd just take them apart & clean them, then lube internals with Remington Dry-Lube spray.

They should still be working fine well into Obamas third or forth term! :what:

Which would explain why myself and a couple of hundred thousand other guys in the Army were instructed to only load 18 rounds in a 20 round magazine.

The issue with the 20's had nothing to do with auto fire, but failure to feed first or second rounds becasue of too much spring pressure.

In my last using that used 20 rounders all our ready ammo was loaded in 18 round magazines, because there were fewer failure to feeds from a fresh magazine on first or second round.

Well, the Army I was in downloaded both 20 & 30 round mags two rounds, because in the heat of the moment, it was sometimes possible to put 21 or 31 in a mag.

Then the mag wouldn't even lock in the gun if the bolt was closed, or feed the first round if it wasn't.

That practice was to prevent jamming if the follower had been improperly reinserted (the Army specifically warned soldiers not to seperate the follower and mag spring, but some chose to disregard the order). I have an early Air Force contract 20, and it is one of the smoothest AR mags I have. Never had a hiccup, and I load it to capacity (slamming it home on a closed bolt, naturally requires muscle, if downloaded, insertion on a closed bolt is easier- if you want to insert at full cap on a closed bolt, by PMAGS). The dull metal followers are some of the best out there- no new fangled additions necessary.
BTW- if your mags are marked .223, they are Air Force contract, 5.56 were Army contract.

I'm sure this is just a subcontractor, but two of my straight 20rd mags have the following stamped on the floorplate:

S (in a square) M16/M16A1 Cal. 5.56mm
UNIVERSAL INDS. DIV
SIMMONDS PREC. PROD. INC
WEST HAVEN, CONN USA

Is there anything special or is this just a subcontractor part?
