Question, I keep only the .22 mag loaded because the cartiages are light. I got a few thermold mags and you kow there plastic... But is it safe to keep them loaded with bullets? the spring on the bottom isnt going blow off the bottom? or fling the bullets out of the top of the spring and they fly in the air.. When put 20 in to shoot at the range, it feels really heavy and kinda makes me feel like they will break the lip and all fly out, maybe thats just me.

SO my question is can I leave bullets in my mags all the time?(its not going break or fling the bullets into the air(because its cheap plastic) No I can not switch to surplus mags because its for a saiga. Surplus only fits in the ak47 not the saiga, Id like to get a feedramp but I am scared I would screw it up and ruin my rifle, I did a conversion and that went good.

I'm not sure on this myself, but if you want to be sure, you can just swap the rounds out of your loaded magazines into another set of unloaded magazines every week or two.
That is of course if you:

a) Have more than 1 magazine.
b) Don't load up every single magazine that you own. :D

I loaded my AK 47 mag with 20 rds instead of 30 . Now those mag springs do last long before u ever think of replacing them . I wouldnt worry if its fully loaded if u prefer that way.

^nathan you got steel mags, mine are plastic..

I got more than 1 magazine. I do no load them all up because of the springs. I just want to keep one loaded. I did not know could it damage the bullet? pressing down into the spring 24/7 or damage the plastic parts to.

Do you recommend keeping 10-20 rounds loaded in a mag? I just fear the pressure of the bullets pressing down and pushing up on the plastic lip snaping off. I think I will do 10 in 1 mag

SEARCH! This topic has been neat to death and then beat back to life and then to undeath

a bump in 14 minutes?????? seriously
If only we dropped a nickel in our piggy banks each time this came up, eh?

Please use the search people - this topic has been beat to death and brought back and beaten again so much that it'd take a Star Trek tricorder to find traces of it . .

(and not just here - it's beat like this on EVERY GUN FORUM [if that forum covers mag fed weapons])

If you are planning to use these magazines please load them with cartridges, not bullets. Bullets won't go off.

Yes, I did not find any other topic on thermold mags, I asked on thermold mags, it may be for others on ar-15/m4 guns but this is cheap plastic thermold, nalioth

Yes cartridges. Bullets are for reloading, shells for reloading, gunpowerd for reload, I almost forgot>Cartridges is the whole package not BULLETS!:D

A quality magazine will have no issues - no matter what it's made of.

Thermolds are quality magazines.

I thought they where cheap-o's

Thank you for clearing this up! :)

plastic will be fine, its a lot worse useing the mag frequently then letting it sit, cuse plastic lips wear rapidly

Id figure that. I am hoping to find a gunsmith who will install a bullet guide/feedramp.

Does anyone know how much this costs?

If you live in the Houston metro, it'll cost you the price of a bullet guide and the gas it takes to drive to my shop. You'll be able to install the bullet guide there.

For the handgun mags I keep loaded I have a decent quantity of them. For my main "defensive" handgun I have six. They are numbered. I keep two loaded. I shoot-out the lower numbered one then fill and replace it with the next number unloaded one every change in season (three months). So any given mag is loaded for six months and unloaded for a year. I also have three new replacement mag springs for these.

madcratebuilder,

Wow..................a picture is worth a thousand words.

And you're right. Moderator, please put this out of it's misery.

I rotate mine out on the first of each month. Same day as I change out my air filter, give my pets their heart worm meds, etc.

I have four total for each pistol; two loaded and two unloaded. Kind of expensive to get going, but it works for me.
