Is this ammo decent? I picked up a 50 round box at gander mountain for 25.00 it seems like that is the going price for it which is really cheap for defense ammo. I have not been able to find any gel test though; however, all the online reviews are positive.

I think Magtech is made in Brazil. They should be good to go although Gander charge quite steeply. IF you want to get the best bullet design , the Federal HST and GOld Dot Speer are the raves amongst the civilian market. Check SGammo and they have a good price listing on them . Im not affiliated with them but just passing along a good source .

Yeah I am not a fan of gander mountain I think today was one of the few times I found something at a decent price. I think I paid 24.01 out the door which seems cheaper than others. It is made in Brazil. I am familiar with the hst and gold dots but practicing with those gets expensive fast.

Hmmm... I'd go federal hst if I were the OP.

Can be had for nearly the same price, but with police and government provenance. A great load for the ages.

The HST is 2x the price you get 20 for the same price. I know it is a good round but practicing with it is cost prohibiting for me

50 round boxes of 180 grain Federal HST .40 S&W ammo for $0.46 per round.

Federal HST is some of the most consistent JHP ammo that has ever been made. This has been established by multiple tests performed by separate professional entities around the country. It's been adopted by numerous federal and state Law Enforcement agencies, and is considered to be some of the best performing self-defense ammunition you can find. If you are dead set on using the Brazilian ammo of questionable merit, by all means go right ahead.

Here is a gel test of this round: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWy2AB_AQYo

No problem! The 50 round boxes can be had and generally sell for much cheaper, they are what is sold to police departments generally. Speer Gold Dots are the same way. :)
