MAIG Losing mayors

A couple of snippets from the articles.

As they’ve left MAIG, many of the mayors have publicly assailed Bloomberg’s group, suggesting that it has gone from a group targeting “illegal” guns to one simply against guns

It did not take long to realize that MAIG’s agenda was much more than ridding felons of illegal guns; that under the guise of helping mayors facing a crime and drug epidemic, MAIG intended to promote confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens.

They left for the same reason I did. MAIG became a vehicle for Bloomberg to promote his personal gun-control agenda — violating the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens and taking resources away from initiatives that could actually work to protect our neighborhoods and save precious lives. Gun control will actually make a bad situation worse

So the 85% that remain agree with the "take em all" mentality?

Read the comments on the article. This guy is just another self serving politician who now that he wants to be a state senator, suddenly got 2A religion.

Per the comments, he is definitely not beloved by the gun crowd in his area. As pointed out, although he mentions he's an NRA member, he wasn't smart enough to see what Bloomberg's agenda was from the start while everyone else did?

I wonder if a lot of these guys joined with minimal research. I mean who is actually FOR illegal guns? Then later found out that this rather innocuous sounding group was actually very much taking a hard line on a politically risky issue.

Self-serving pretty much describes most politicians on both sides of the aisle. Red or Blue, the more solidly colored their district, the more consistent they can be with their positions on issues. Pols in purple districts tend to waffle a lot more than those in red and blue.

MAIG was initially formed by Bloomberg to combat guns coming into NYC from outside of the city. Mayors Against Illegal Guns, sounds fine, but a more accurate name would have been Mayors Against Legal Guns That Are Illegal In New York City. "MALGTAIINYC"? :uhoh:

Were those 15% now dissatisfied with the group now that its goal is defeated the same ones who jumped on the bandwagon after the shooting to score some points? ;) IIRC, MAIG said the number of mayors supporting it went up about that much at one point after the shooting in '12

Don't forgive these mayors for ever dealing with those devils --no one's naiive enough to think they were "only against illegal guns," and those pols will sell your city out in a NY minute if it looks popular with the right people.

And just what exactly is an "illegal" gun?
Bloomies definition would be a pistol that is owned by someone who didn't have the 9 month intrusive, intensive, invasive, mental and medical background checks and didn't have the 4 pages of notarized references, didn't have the 'co-habitation release' and did not cough up the $431.50 application fees. (Plus the extra $340 renewal fee every three years.)

Another one of the MAIG got convicted today;

Ex-New Orleans mayor convicted of taking bribes...

The federal jury found Nagin guilty of 20 of 21 counts against him...

The charges against Nagin included one overarching conspiracy count along with six counts of bribery, nine counts of wire fraud, one count of money laundering conspiracy and four counts of filing false tax returns. He was acquitted of one of the bribery counts.

Each charges carries a sentence from 3 to 20 years, but how long he would serve was unclear and will depend on a pre-sentence investigation and various sentencing guidelines. No sentencing date was set.

Gun Owners Against Illegal Mayors represents Americans united to fight the Bloomberg Gang, a band of organized criminal politicians. Originating in New York City, the Gang has recruited criminal mayors across the United States.

Some of the Gang's members have been convicted of assaulting officers and constituents, corruption, extortion, theft, obstruction of justice, bribery, perjury, tax evasion, child porn, battery, and child molestation. They have attacked constituents and police officers, destroyed houses with sledge hammers, and even stolen gift cards donated for the poor. No crime is beneath them and no enormity beyond them.

The gang hides its intentions behind the deceptive title of "Mayors Against Illegal Guns." This criminal band was organized by N.Y. City mayor Michael "Bloomie" Bloomberg, who is reported to have made illegal gun purchases in several states, which interfered with 18 federal investigations. No wonder that he and his illicit mayors would like to see us made helpless to resist their sociopathic drives.

We call upon Americans to unite against these thugs, and to demand that the Department of Justice use its Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) powers to shut down "Mayors Against Illegal Guns."
Stop the Illegal Mayors! Stop them for our children, and for ourselves!

I like the far fetched idea of prosecuting the usurpers under a mob law, but when was the last time anyone got prosecuted under the RICO statute?

Does Bob Filner qualify?

I wonder where Kevin Faulconer will stand on this, he hasn't said much.

This. I don't buy the "we didn't know what it was" argument, or "the purpose isn't as stated". Bloomberg makes no bones about his position, and it is not a secret. They knew what it was, and EAGERLY jumped on the opportunity to get their name up there. Had it been successful, they would have EAGERLY stayed on board and voted their constituents' rights away as resolutely as the mayors who stayed. No need to wonder if they will flip on you with the next shooting by some mentally ill puke with a gun... you already know they will betray you.

Let's say the guy is honest and didn't know what it was. How many of you knew immediately what MAIG was about? Is "I'm gullible" something to recommend a politician?

Whether they knew/know what the organization is all about or not is irrelevant.

Knew = anti-Constitutionalist that clearly supports gun grabbers

Didn't know = blind ignoramus too stupid to understand that they are being used to support the agenda of gun grabbers

Is one really better than the other? Do I really want either of these to be governing me on ANY level? Um... no.
