Hey gang! Here in Kansas we're bracing for a bad winter ice storm that's about to happen. Stuck here in the house, I figured I'd snap a photo of my Bulgarian Makarov PM with some neat accessories I recently picked up:

I've had the holster, lanyard and cleaning rod as it came with the gun. I figured I'd pick up a black matching USSR service belt and I've been wanting an ushanka winter hat for a long time now. They're really great for the bitter cold weather, and this is an authentic Soviet army one. I'm happy to have my little rig complete for my PM. I carry my this gun as my primary CCW pistol in a Sticky brand IWB holster. Very cool but not as photogenic!

If you have any "Mak stuff" or any other pistols with the "correct" military issued rig (holster, belt, etc.) I'd love to see them! I am also working on such a rig for my Browning Hi-Power Mk III and will show you guys that when it's done. :)

Take care all and be careful if you live in the Midwest. Get some emergency food, water and clothing tonight if you don't already have it. Have a good one!

I have old ddr police holster that looks very similar to one pictured. It can be used to carry pistol giving it extra protection to weapon and keeping dust away from it.

bannockburn: one of those words is 'beautiful', and Cooldill responded with 'thank you'.

Cooldill: as .22LR seems to still be too pricey for so many people, I might consider sending you three 500-rd. bricks of Federal .22 for that obsolete Russian hat.

Small world. I just worked three days with a guy who left Moscow for Wisconsin when he was thirteen.

Maybe Cooldill and I should soon petition Pres. Trump (after he digests some highly complex global situations) in order to allow many more imports of Russian military, Chinese and EG Makarovs. Good idea?

I have ordered a lot of "obsolete useless commie stuff" from Russian in the past few years. I love all the Soviet army gear, so cool and often really useful. Stuff like this can be had for cheap on eBay. Most sellers in Russian also offer free shipping, even if it's fairly slow. This hat cost me just over $20 and I highly doubt you'd find something as well built and heavy duty in America for that price.

There are lots of sources for those Russian hats. I've considered one but am currently overstocked with winter gear.

Keep in mind most sold en eBay and the like are not authentic Soviet army ones. There are way to spot the difference though.

While staying in West Berlin in the early 1980s, I used to drive through the old DDR ("The Worker's Paradise") up to Hamburg. I had numerous encounters with guys wearing that stuff. Never thought it would become collectible. On the whole, the East German Volkspolizi were pretty decent, even more polite than some US police officers I recall. I spent a few hours in a magistrate's office being "tried" for speeding and wandering off the Transit Road which is the only sanctioned place I should be. There was the magistrate, a "bailiff" type, and the two arresting officers. One of whom was a real card who told jokes of a sort when I misunderstood the amount of my fine with my limited German. We all had a good laugh before sending me on my way with a lighter wallet. They even waved as I drove off from the parking lot. All this good cheer and fellowship was in dark contrast with the Soviet types supervising the border crossing checkpoints. That was a grim lot. So, when I see that hat, photo and belt, it brought back a few memories.
