Having removed the decocking lever on my new Russian Mak, in order to clean out the firing pin channel, I had no end of difficulty putting it back.

It went in OK and was seated in the hole, but when I tried to turn it back to the decocked position it wouldn't go all the way, and was either snagging inside the receiver, or the looped wire that secures it in place on the frame was unable to get back onto the slab side where it normally resides.

I spent over an hour twisting and turning the lever, squeezing it and loosening it, but to no avail. In the end I tapped the lever with the rubber handle of a pair of pliers and it moved.

Unfortunately it left a small but deep scratch on the side of the frame where the looped catch had been forced to travel. I'm not referring to the scratch between the decocked position and the firing position, but just above it on the curved part of the frame.
Do you think this stiffness was because the gun is new and the parts are not smoothed out, or was I doing something wrong? Is there a trick to putting the decocking lever back on the frame?

Would appreciate your views.

On another note, would you run a little cold blue to touch up the scratch, or just leave it as a mark of character, and keep it protected with a little oil or grease?
