Hey guys! As some of you may know, I am the proud owner of a Bulgarian Makarov PM pistol. It's just so nice! One of the neat things it came with is the original full flap military leather holster:
What a neat rig! It's got a space for an extra magazine, a cleaning rod, and a lanyard is also used with it. I think I found my new tree stand hunting rig! Extremely secure and the lanyard would be great in case one drops the gun while climbing up or sitting in a stand. When I first got the holster, it was pretty tight, especially the built in mag pouch. But I used the old waxed paper around gun (and mag) trick and let sit overnight and it really helped.
What is interesting is that the Russian military still uses this exact setup. Check out this picture from late last year in Syria of Russian ground support working on an Su-34 fighter jet:
How cool is that? While it might not be the most practical holster in the world, it is handy and protects the pistol well. I really like these full flap holsters for field use. If you have some full flap holsters yourself, I'd love to see them.
Thanks all!
