Here's a snippet from the news this morning :what:

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A hunter is recovering after he was shot in the leg by his dog, who stepped on his shotgun and tripped the trigger, an official said yesterday.

James Harris, 37, of Tama, Iowa, was hit on the opening day of pheasant season, said Natural Resources spokesman Alan Foster.

Harris was hunting with a group about five kilometers north of Grinnell. The group shot a bird, and when Harris went to get it, he put his gun on the ground and crossed a fence. As he crossed the fence, his hunting dog stepped on the gun, Foster said.

The gun was about a metre away from his leg.

I wonder is this dog ever attended a hunter's safety course.:)

Was it Deputy Dawg by any chance? :neener:

Someone needs to teach that dog the four rules:

1) All guns left on the ground by your master, are loaded.
2) Don't step on a gun that is pointed at your master.
3) Keep your paw out of the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot.
4) Be sure of where you are shooting (NOT at master!)

Apparently, just before the shot, the dog was muttering "I is the only dawg qualified enuff ta step on this here shotgun..."

The dog was mad because it was his job to get the bird not the guy's job.

I have often lamented the decline in morals in this country. Now we have trigger happy dogs.

Why did he bring the dog if he wasn't going to use it?

If I was the dog, I'd be insulted too...If you've ever taken a bird dog with you hunting, they enjoy retrieving the bird more than a little bit.:D

He should also try putting the safety on next time.

I was in a hunter safety course a couple of weeks ago thinking to myself >>> "Man this a bit of an overkill showing us how to safely go over a fence line or a rock wall"...

Guess not! :what:
