Fox News now using "Assault Weapon" instead of rifle or AK47.

CUTLER BAY, Fla. — Four officers on Thursday were shot, one fatally, at an apartment complex in Miami-Dade, prompting a massive manhunt and the lockdown of several area schools, WSVN-TV reported.

The officers were conducting burglary surveillance detail when they noticed a white Honda Accord being driven erratically at the entrance to a local neighborhood. When police stopped the vehicle the driver shot the four officers and fled, authorities said.

"Truly this is a sad day for Miami-Dade County," Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez said at an afternoon news conference. "It’s gut-wrenching; it makes you sick to your stomach."

Police said Kevin Wehner, 30, next abandoned his AK-47 and vehicle.

Wehner was described by witnesses as a black heavy-set male with a full beard and short hair, wearing a blue shirt. Authorities said he left his Honda near a canal.

"He is not a person of interest; he is the suspect that we are looking for," Alvarez said.

Organizations like HCI that believe in victim disarmament will probably try and use this unfortunate incident to their advantage since it's an evil "assault weapon" and an AK-47 at that. All because one criminal wants to be a hard core gangster/cop killer we'll end up having to deal with more assaults on our rights, you just know that these people are talking about using this to their advantage.

Too bad the cops who were shot or shot at weren't able to shoot him and be done with it.

I wonder what the details of the situation were and what happened exactly, the truth is in the details.

Hopefully the AKM will turn out to have been illegally modified to full auto, then at least they can't claim truthfully that those are legal weapons that are obtained without alot of hassle or background checks. He's probably a felon already as I don't think that someone goes from spitting on the sidewalk to killing police officers the next day, but being a felon illegally in possesion of a gun won't matter to gun control advocates. That won't be enough for them.

It won't occur to them that criminals like this don't abide by the law no matter what so that more gun control/victim disarmament would only take firearms out of the hands of law abiding folks, not guys like this.

new picture. just got released...no beard, clean shaven, not heavy set at all, short hair.

my buddy is a detective in Florida city and was on the way to the scene when he called. we heard about it as it happened this morning on the scanner, very very scary to hear that over the radio...

Not to sound mean but my thoughts are a bit more with the family of the killed officer, the remaining three wounded officers and anyone that comes across this guy before he is caught more than what negativity it will bring to us legally carrying firearms. I agree someone will have something bad to say about it but at the moment I find it insignificant. Sorry if I am alone in that.

Sorry if I am alone in that.
No you are not alone but we know that by now there are people out there that are already thinking about how they can use this against us. Unfortunately at times like these we are left to wonder how those people will try and make us all look like this guy because we might have the same possessions. And then convice people that those possessions are what define us and that they must take them away so as to prevent us from doing the unthinkable thing that this guy did.

I feel terrible for the families of those who were shot in the line of duty. It would make my day if a private citizen that was lawfully carrying took him out.

They are now reporting that he shaved after the shooting and that they know he bought 3 AK47s in March.

Police are saying there may be another man involved.

As far as the pictures... I think the clean-shaven picture is the old DL photo... and the bearded one is more recent (since he apparently had a beard when he did the shooting).

Some crazy anti reporter's on Fox (on the ground guy - blue tie and shirt) - already talking about evil assault weapons that can fire fast, and how we should get rid of 'em.

Latest from Fox - started as a traffic stop for erratic driving, and the guy got out and started blasting.

anybody catching the eery vibes that seem to be similar to the shootout in LA in the 90's?

My thoughts go out to all involved, including a nice dark thought for the idiot at the trigger.

Wow, 3 AK-47's? That guy must be rich to be able to afford $1000+ guns, and all the tax stamps.

Or, maybe they're just WASRs, and the media doesn't know squat about squat.

I sure hope he makes another stupid move, like not put the gun down when they catch him. They know they can't shoot him in the chest, so I guess the head is the next best option, right?

Aim true

First picture removed as it was the wrong man.

Yep sure they will, we had a guy shoot up the Latah County Courthouse, Moscow PD officers, (killed one), U of I student, His wife & a Church caretaker a while back, it is noted on the Brady's map at their website...

Since this is getting more press, they will use it like V-Tech, I bet it will be on their front page pretty soon next to the CA Micro-stamping "Victory" story...

They were looking for the wrong person. Kevin Wehner (bearded guy) has contacted police. He's not in the area, and not involved with this whole thing.

The second photo is the actual suspect - Shawn Sherwin Labeet (guy in second photo, no beard).

Oh man the reporters are grilling them for getting the name wrong. Supposedly the suspect had stolen Wehner's ID.

Now there seems to be some confusion about the first picture not being the right guy - the second photo is the correct one.

Shawn S. Labeet?

According to fox news just now

Police now say Kevin Wehner is not involved(Picture #1).

Second photo is the real suspect.

Shawn Sherwin Labeet is the real suspect. 5'10" 25 years old.

Someone "mislead" them.

No info on Labeet yet. Apparently he had stolen Wehner's identity, DL, or something. Wehner turned himself in to clear it up in Jacksonville and has been completely exonerated.

Fox News reports that the man who did the shooting dropped Kevin Wehner's stolen DL.

The DL photos are clearly of two different people. Just compare the nose and checks in the two photos. Unless he had plastic surgery those are not the same person.

Now they've changed their mind. Bearded photo was not the guy in question.
All they know is that he's white. Or black, more recently. And 25.

It's possible that the real shooter is a 70-year-old 5' anorexic oriental female with a Scottish accent and red hair.

so, the guy stole somebody's id and dropped it at the scene to confuse the cops. me thinks this should get recorded and sent to Arnie, showing how the same thing could happen with microstamped brass.

Now they're talking about illegal gun tip lines and such (that's not bad). But, they're also saying stuff like "if you know anyone with a high powered rifle" or "these guns are out there, these guns are out there..."

As of 4:12 PM:
A large manhunt was underway for the suspect, identified as Shawn Sherwin Labeet, 25, who was last seen driving a 2007 four-door black Pontiac Vibe with a woman and two children in central Broward County, said police spokeswoman Cmdr. Linda O'Brien.
