If you want "managed recoil" in a .357, you can shoot .38 Special wadcutters, and move up from there if the wadcutters seem too mild.
Regarding "the ring," Flitz paste and elbow grease with a Lewis Lead remover kit will remove it for certain. Not that you need to completely remove the ring though. The Lewis Lead Remover kit will take care of enough of the ring that .357 cases won't hang up. But you won't want to be going back-and-forth between .38 wadcutters and .357 a lot. Because running the Lewis Lead Remover is a bit of a chore. I wouldn't want to do it weekly.
