Man's head smashed by his own shotgun

REDLANDS - A 39-year-old man was hospitalized Wednesday with a fractured skull and a broken eye socket after been hit with his own shotgun and pummeled by two assailants who were later arrested, according to police.

At about 5:30 p.m. a 9-year-old boy called police to say his father brandished a shotgun at two men who had come to the front door of his Roma Street home.Police and firefighter-paramedics responded to the home and the victim was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center, police logs said.

The assailants had taken the victim¹s shotgun from him, hit him with it and hit him with their fists, according to police. Two hours later brothers Jason Michael Young, 26, and Brandon Scott Young, 25, called police to report that
the hospitalized victim had pointed a shotgun at them.

During an interview with police the brothers admitted going to the home to collect money from the victim and assaulting him, officials said. The shotgun used in the beating was recovered at their Pine Avenue apartment, according to reports.

The brothers were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon of force likely to cause great bodily injury, according to reports.

Don't use a gun to defend yourself if you really aren't willing to pull the trigger.

I'm not surprised.

The fact that the man owed his assailants some money must have confused him at some level, thinking it entitled them to some "free" beatings, or somehow compromised his standing to defend himself in the eyes of the law.

This sort of confusion can get you killed or beaten.

Like others suspect, I'm sure there's more to the story.

Okay, so place your bets.

Meth?

Cocaine?

Weed?

My money, if I had any left over after buying bulk ammo recently, would be on meth.

I thought this post was....

going to be another story of some guy shooting a 1911 or 44 mag one handed and the gun whipping up under recoil and smacking the shooter in the face..........That tale must be true because I have been hearing it for 50 years............ditto, what hillbilly said.......chris3

When I taught my sisters to shoot.

The first thing after basic safety I told them was "You never pull a gun to threaten somebody. You pull it, you use it. Period. No further discussion required."

I couldn't agree more.

A few weeks ago this middle-aged couple came into the store looking for a gun. They were very nice, mild-mannered (almost timid) people, small of stature, and knew nothing about guns. The most unimposing people you could ever meet. The lady was looking at the CO2 pistols, so I assumed they just wanted something for plinking/targets, probably a present for a kid or something. She like the Walther PPK, being an exact replica of a real one, made of steel instead of plastic like some of the others, not too big, etc. I asked her what it was for, and she said her husband would be out of town for a few weeks on a business trip, and if a burglar breaks in when she's alone, she wanted something to point at him to scare him off.

I almost felt like an EMT, because I had to act quickly to save this woman's life! I explained why that would be a very, very bad idea, and that she needed a real gun if she really felt she was in danger, and that she had to be willing to shoot for real if that happens. "You mean the pain of being hit with a BB won't make him run off?" Aye, carumba... :banghead:

I finally got the point across to them and made them realize the dangers of what they were thinking. They wisely decided not to buy one and then they left. I don't know if they went somewhere else and bought one, but I hope for their own sake they didn't.

ball3006, I actually saw that happen some years ago with a young idiot and a 1911 at the indoor range I shoot. I'm not sure what exactly happened but think he was horsing around with his head bent over the gun and waving it around. It put a small cut and bigger bump on his forehead. The guy running the range went in and had a long talk with him and his friends about horseplay and watching where the muzzle was pointed Also told them one more instance and they were barred.

Hillbilly, I'm gunna go with a mixed bag.. Probably some Meth, maybe a little coke as well.. Probably some pain killers, and a little interest might get mixed in too.

Obviously, he didn't rack the shotgun as we know that this sound scares away all who hear it.

Sounds like a charming set of folks.

I'm sorry the guy got hurt but I just used this example to remind/caution my wife NEVER to pull a gun unless she plans to SHOOT the assailant. NEVER TRY TO INTIMIDATE THE BAD GUY(S) WITH A WEAPON. I sincerely HOPE she will heed the lesson if situation ever arises for her.

Good shooting and be safe.

disagree

if i wake up to a bump in the night (and the dogs barking, etc), arm myself, and get the jump on a burglar in my living room, I'm not going to automatically plug his tender rear and head cheerfully into legal land.

I'd aim for com, tell him to freeze and lie down on the ground. if he makes a quick move, i'd plug him then.

but otherwise, i'd use the cell phone in my pocket to call the cops and then just hold position in the doorway until they show up.

I lived in Redlands for many yrs. I now live outside it a few
miles. You'd have to be there to understand the town.
But as mentioned above there is surely more to the story
than is mentioned. I'm not surprised someone had their
weapon taken from them there though. Redlands has
always been known for having hot wind in the sails.

And Roma is a street located in a troubled history part
of the city.

Silverlance,
Good for you! BUT YOU ARE NOT MY WIFE and I didn't advise you; I advised her. I see from your profile that you are a 26 year old male while my wife is a 60+ year old very small woman with little strength. My concern is first and foremost for her safety, especially if she is alone and someone breaks into our house. YMMV.

Good shooting and be safe.

Sounds to me this guys strength of will is about as good as his strength of character if he is welching on a debt. If I just tried to collect what someone rightly owed me and they pulled a weapon on me they had better use it or I would have done the same thing to him.
