Manufacturers Change Look of AR-15; Rifle Is Now Legal in New York State

We no longer have to use those stocks, we now have bullet buttons and off list lowers, basically have a regular rifle.

Not sure how it would affect the NY law but something to look into.

I think it's neat looking (still prefer my regular AR's). Glad it does what is intended and gets guns into the American People's hands in NY.

Easy to see what their next move is. "Ban all military caliber semi auto rifles" There goes your AR's, 308 AR's (that slipped by in MD) among others. And you better hope they include "military caliber semi-auto"

That is how Mexico does it IIRC. Ban civilians from owning guns in military calibers. Military has one of everything in the inventory except 38 super.

I was just wondering the other day if anyone's made/modified an AR to use wood furniture in a style that's more typical of, say, a basic/hunting rifle. Perhaps something of a 1 piece deal, instead of a separate buttstock & fore end, that obscured the lower.

Those sad socialists liberals in New York are going to be spinning when they see that! How long will it take before they find a way to outlaw that thing?

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to come up with a SAFE Act legal stock.

Cool.

I'm going to be pessimistic and say I'd rather see the law repealed than circumvented. Give it a few years or less and this will be banned, too.

That AR15 grip/stock configuration has been around for over 7 years.

It was initially designed and made to comply with CA's assault weapons ban.

It's not as popular in CA due to the more common use of a "bullet button" style magazine lock with 10 round magazine.

It's interesting to note that the "bullet button" style magazine lock is not legal in States (NY, NJ, CT, MD, MA, HI) with worst gun laws than CA.

So that's legal in NY, but an 1894 Marlin in 38 special is not. I have friends who just moved to upstate NY. I feel sorry for them. They'll always be out voted by the oxygen starved masses in NYC. A republic is OK, democracy stinks.

Heck, I'd buy one.

If nothing else, I could take the stock off and use it for a SHTF sink drain repair when the hardware stores are over-run by Zombies.

Speedo, probably because of the magazine tube. At least that's my guess. I didn't remember much of the details of the NY gun law because I'm not going to NY :/

Yep, as I understand it, the law prohibits ANY mags of over 7 rounds. Even if attached to the gun. So technically your typical pump action shotgun is illegal because theoretically you could load it with those 1.75" mini shells and be over the 7 round limit.
