Do all of the parts/accessories for the Mossberg 500/590 fit the Mariner? I know the Mariner comes with a 5+1 capacity, but can you get increased magazine capacity with a Mariner? If so, do you have to put a mag extension on, or can you just get a bigger magazine altogether?

Also, is the Rem 870 Marine Magnum nickel coated, as well? Just curious as to the differences in the Marine versions. I've read up on the 870 vs. 500 threads, but I'm not sure about the Marine versions and how they differ.

Note: I'm not looking at the mariner for the flashy factor (nickel plating). I actually prefer black shotguns, but I may use this as a boat gun in the future--hence the interest.

Ok, so I found out there's a 590 Mariner, as well. So I guess that answers part of the capacity question. I'm still wondering whether a 500 Mariner can accept mag extensions.

My new question is what's a good price for a Mariner 500? I've been reading that the cost of a marine version of a shotgun (Remington 870, Winchester 1300, or Mossberg 500/590) is about 50% more than its non-marine counterpart. Is that true?

I would check prices myself, but my place of work installed a new firewall that doesn't allow me to go to web sites pertaining to "weapons". For some reason, THR is excluded from that filter. Sorry for all the newbie questions, and thanks for all of your help.

The Mossberg Model 500 standard length magazine cannot be extended, due to the method in which the barrel mounts to the gun.

I believe the 590 series can be extended, since it uses a barrel mounting method that's more or less a copy of Remington's system.

In the case of the 500 you either buy the gun with an extended magazine, or live with it the way it comes.

The Remington Magnum Marine comes with a satin nickel finish, and an extended magazine.
In the case of the Magnum Marine, you have a lot more flexibility since you can convert it to a shorter, standard length magazine by buying a shorter spring, and two inexpensive old style parts.

With some difference of opinion, most people would rather have the Remington.
