Well, they've always said Marines can break anything...

Here a couple of guys try to test the Glock with your usual submersion in water, rubbed in dirt, etc. etc. HOWEVER, their results are much different then what is normally preached. Quite frankly, I'm glad they did what they did. It would be interesting to have these guys try out some other popular guns.

Anyway, here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5iahKNVj44&feature=related

Edit: Here are more recent videos of them testing other secondary weapons, (contain profanity):

Definitely interesting, but I was hoping this thread would be more about why these firearms functioned and malfunctioned.

I'd say mostly malfunction due to the cheap ammo. They said several times that they were using Tula. However, I am curious to know about the catastrophic failure of the 1911. But overall I liked their methodology and thoroughness.

I'm just not so sure about it being all the ammo's fault. I've run a lot of cheap ammo in my own Glock with zero malfunctions (except for my mom's limpwristing).

I know it can be a factor, but the Winchester White Box can't be all that bad in a Gen 4.

I'm not saying it's all the ammo's fault, but if this is a mock test intended for future US Marine use, I think the hotter loads the military uses may have a different result than WWB (which I've always thought of as a lower power load). Even with WWB I was a little surprised by the results.

One of the blogs I read always rips on these guys due to their safety habits (or lack thereof).

There are thousands of other videos where glocks pass these same tests and most of them dont have convenient cutaways right before the malfunction...

I wonder if that was a first run G17 and would like to see a 3rd gen do the same thing

These clowns aren't Marines. This video has been shown on other forums. Apparently they are a bunch of survivalists "playing army."

U.S. Marines ARE hard on gear. I remember an old U.S. Marine years ago telling me about how when the M 14 rifle was first introduced to the Corps it was decided that the bayonet mounting lug was not sturdy enough after they managed to snap a number of them off when ramming them into bayonet butts while screaming at the top of their lungs. God I love the U.S. Marines.

Couldn't make it through the first minute.

On tangent, I've heard it said that if you lock two Marines in an empty room with a single ball bearing each, when you open it up again after an hour, one ball bearing will be missing, the other broken, and no one will know what happened.

I'm glad I didn't post that garbage.

FWIW, just because one individual's handgun does or doesn't work in a particularly absurd scenario has no bearing on your/my experience or needs.

I've had my primary duty Glock for years. I CCW'd it for several years before carrying it as a cop. I've spent 40+ hours per week, as well as typically another 15-20 hours per week of extra-duty, and several more of every day carry with my Glock(s).

Mine have never failed me. I operate mine instinctually, and because I've performed the same tac reloads with the same equipment thousands of times, it's near flawless for me with the Glock platform.

For someone else, this may be the case with a Sig, etc.

My Glocks never rust. Glocks cost me $400. There are ample holster options, and since I'm a lefty this is important. Imagine getting a lefty holster for a HK USP 45 with a weaponlight. Regardless of what the online seller promises, prepare to wait 4 months for your holster. Glocks are well supported for lefties, because enough Glocks are out there to justify stocking some lefty accessories.

I live about 15 minutes from the Glockmeister. He's got everything I need. When I wear out a mag release spring or catch, he's got the parts I need in stock, and he replaces 'em for cost, and it's usually between $1 and $8 to replace whatever part I beat up... and he fixes it while I wait.

I'm not going to deliberately pour dirt inside my handgun and then promptly engage a gunman. That test is absurd. I live and die by my sidearm, and while not a marine, I know enough to take care of my tools.

BTW, I suspect the jokers in the video were imposters, and marines only in the context of XBox.

I don't care if they're Marines, survivalists, or cross dressing female high school drama class students putting on a play. Who they are doesn't effect the tests.

Having said that, I don't know anybody who actually needs this level of resilience in a weapon inside the US. Guys who need this kind of durability (we ALL need reliability, but not mud tests, etc) are issued weapons.

I wonder if these clowns had the maritime spring cups installed. I couldn't watch the whole thing because of the gag factor but I'm betting they don't even know they exist.

They claim they installed them @ 1:15 due to the all the failures from the first time.

It's a magic Glock. Notice when it had the misfeed at 3:50. He removed the mag, cleared the gun by racking the slide several times (off camera - wonder why), then stuck the mag back in it. HE THEN FIRED IT WITHOUT RACKING THE SLIDE. I quit watching at that point. I've experienced many misfeeds, and NEVER have had one rechamber itself after multiple slide racks.

I guess I'll try and filter my YouTube discoveries so I don't post any more "garbage".

I'll just wait for this one to get shut down since most of us are only complaining,

Complaining?

After one of the misfires, the pistol is thrown in the camerman's direction: that's not a complaint, as much as a factual observance of complete idiocy.

The title refers to Marines, but I see no indication that these are actually Marines.

Open chamber and pour in dirt, to start the test? No.

I'm not so sure they have the knowledge or wherewithal to dupe us... Definitely not the sharpest crayolas in the box.

I did have to LOL when they were scrounging for ammo thou...

Least they could have edited out those parts
