I am going to start reforming some of the 500+ 30/06 cases I have to 8MM. But I am worried about accidently mistaking one for the other once its done and said. I am trying to figure out a way to mark the cases to keep them segregated easier.

What do you guys do to mark reformed cases? I have heard of permanent parker, is that durable (will it wipe off)?

Scribe the brass head with something sharp and note it in your load book. A line is all it takes, nothing fancy.

8MM brass is not expensive, swap your excess 30-06 for some or sell it and buy some, unless you are in need of more to do.

Except for the fact that I have a butt load of 30-06 once fired brass, and reloadable 8mm is scarce to find right now. Good luck trying to find someone to trade you 8MM brass, I have been trying for a while.

Cheapest I have seen is $40/100. Turning my 30-06 into 8mm costs me nothing more than my time and some brass I already had sitting around.

Walkalong: Thanks for the tip, I will have to get a scribe for the brass.

Stick all the cases in a line. The plastic liners that come in factory rifle ammo boxes are great for this. Chuck a thin cut disk in Mr. Dremel, then take and scribe a line across the whole headstamp. With all of them lined up in a row it takes a few seconds to make one long continuous line down each row... You don't want to actually gouge up or cut a groove in the cases, just make a line with the Dremel. It will be easy enough to tell them apart then and it won't rub off. Marker WILL come off in a tumbler.

Practice on some berdan junk cases. Once you get the hang of it it goes zip=zip and you just did 20 cases.
