A friend has a very nice condition Marlin 1894 chambered for 45LC, with a 16" barrel he wants to sell. I get the impression he'd really like it if I bought it but arriving at a fair value has been a challenge.

He believes only 200 of the 16" barrel rifles were made. With an 03 serial prefix it should be a '97 gun.

I've searched gunbroker and the like and can't find any sales for this model. There are plenty of the longer 24" barrel rifles out there for around $700-$800.

I don't presently shoot that caliber but a fine Marlin rifle to me is like a fifth of whiskey to a drunk; irresistible.

Any ideas on value?

Well idk what the price should be but if you do buy it and want to sell it can I be first in line please

They did A couple runs of 500 for Talo I think. never heard of A run of 200. I'm guessing it is stainless?

here are pictures of one for sale. http://www.armslist.com/posts/82388...ale-trade--marlin-1894-45lc-16--ogca-eidition

http://www.armslist.com/posts/86079...-16--short-rifle-in-45lc--nib-1997-safe-queen asking 900, but it looks like it has been up for sale a few times without success.

personally I don't care much for 45lc in the marlin platform. The chambers are oversized and low pressure loads spit back in your face around the bolt pretty bad. Personally, I wouldn't give more than 600 for it, but that is below market value.
