Marlin 1894 New vs old Mag tube?

Hi All , I own a marlin 1894 in 44 mag. About a year ago I got the bug for lever guns. I just like to see something,simple ,yet one that works well. I notice that on the newer guns the hole for the barrel clamp is larger than for the older guns. The hole for my Marlin Due to my sloppy work I have cross threaded the small screw. Hey, at least I admit it when I mess up! I just can`t find this smaller screw. Can I have a gunsmith make the groove in the gun`s barrel, & mag tube a little bigger in order to use the newer slightly larger in diameter screw? Thanks, Charlie
