Marlin 1895CB Question....

Guys,

I looked at the Marlin Cowboy 45-70....not a bad package...

BUt I got one problem with it...


The sights AB-SO-LUTELY SUCK!

The rear sight is stamped and flimsy....the front sight is tall and looks prone to damage...right out on the end of the barrel and all...

I hate to ruin the lines by sticking a big peep on the reciever...then you gotta figure the new front sight out...

What do any of you guys who own these do?

I use an XS ghost ring with a taller than stock front post. I bought both at brownells. I didn't mind changing the original looks of my 1894 because the receiver mounted peep is leaps and bounds better than the factory buckhorn.

I guess the CB has the same buckhorn as all the other 1894s, they aren't fragile, and they will work, but the peeps work much better.

If you want to keep an old fashioned look you could check out the lyman tang sights. Lots of cowboys used them.

If looks are paramount, a tang sight is the way to go. Marlin figured that a lot of folks would take this route--that's why they moved the serial number on the CB rifle so that the tang would be suitable for mounting a sight.

NOt sure if it the same sight...the literature says it is a Marble's rear sight...

I have looked at the Brownells catalog...most of the traditional buckhorn sights...the have a "V" slot...do not offer a blade front sight to go with them...as far as I know...a bead does not work well...in a "V"...

Looks like Brockman offers a blade front sight...in .125...which is 1/8th if I am not mistaken...which is way big for a buckhorn...but not for his peep...

Looks like a custom deal...

WOndering if I should buy this rifle...
