I'm considering purchasing a Marlin 308 MXLR from a local shop. Good price and a case of ammo thrown in as well.

I was browsing my 2010 Cabela's Shooting catalog and notice they offer a scope for this rifle/caliber. It's the Cabela's Pine Ridge Lever-Action Riflescope for the .308 Marlin.

Has anyone had any experience with this scope line and/or this rifle/scope combination? I personally am not familiar with this line and would love some feedback on it.

If this isn't a good scope or combination is there anything else out there prupose built for this caliber?

Thank you for your information and feedback.

The scope is a gimmick. Those little dots are not guaranteed to be zero for any given range. Get a nice scope. The rifle is a great design, but I'm not sure that the caliber will be around in ten years....you can help that yourself by shooting/buying more ammo.

I agree with Abel on this round possibly not being available in the future.....save your brass and a lot of it. It's a good round and is very accurate if you do your part but I see no real advantage to it other than being a proprietary round chambered in only one rifle make.

I like my rifle and plan on keeping it around but I've also managed to squirrel away about 500 rounds, counting brass. Accuracy is just average with round-nose bullets...about on par with your average .30-30.

Excellent points on the rifle and the ammo. Good to know about the scope as well.

To be honest I hadn't really thought about the amo but your right....one rifle for one maker of the ammo.

Maybe I should just get that M1 Carbine I've been looking at instead.....
