OK so I saw a marlin 3336 SC in a pawn shop this morning the gun is in fairly rough shape. It has a cracked stock, a personal serial number engraved in the side, (quite poorly I might add. :banghead: and there is maybe 5% bluing left on the gun. I believe it was made before 1952 as it has a "waffle top" like the one in the picture (not my picture) but my question is what is it worth and does anyone make a scope mount that uses the screws in the side of the gun so there is no drilling and tapping.

Thank you everyone in advance

Presuming it has a decent bore & crown, no rust or pitting, is tight and mechanically fine , the crack does not make it unshootable , etc. ( I know, a lot of presumptions ) it should be in the $200 ballpark depending on a few factors.

The bore looked decent not great and the stock it more or less split it will have to be replaced or I will have to spend some time pinning and gluing it Also the action seems perfectly fine albeit a little dirty.

Given that new data I wouldn't give $200 for it depending on..... With the stock as you describe...$150 if its in 30-30. If in .35 Rem perhaps shekel or two more. If in something like .219 Zipper, considerably more.

What are they asking and what caliber is it chambered in ?

I would pass. There was a time when people loved to etch a sketch their SSN on guns. That combined with a cracked stock (cracks don't go away, they grow) would be a deal breaker regardless of price. Unless I needed a "parts gun" I have no use for it.

I agree with $200 absolute max ifit is a .32SPCL...$150 for a .30-30, and .35 Remington somewhere in between...Don't believe that the early 336's were made in any other calibers...

The tapped holes in the side are for a William's Peep, or the like...

Pretty sure there is no scope mount made to utilize these holes, and doubt that a scope would stay attached using only this two holes if such a mount could be fabricated...

In the condition you describe, you are not going to hurt any collector value by tapping the Waffle-Top...

Though the rifle in the OP's thread is a waffle and earlier than this one ( Gunbroker # 543771113 ) they were made in .219 Zip a long time ago.

It is in a 30-30 and I have always liked the old marlins but they are asking 269 so I will probably pass on this one

I picked up a fully functional, albeit a bit dirty, no cracks, no issues 1962 JC Higgins Sears (Marlin 336) for $160 with 3 boxes of ammo.

I would pass on this one at anything over $100.

I worked the action with a dummy shell, it was smooth and everything seemed to work fine I'm not sure if the firing pin was functioning right but I'm going to pass on it unless I can get it for 125, I do love a project XD

According to everything I have ever read, the Marlin 336 Waffle-Tops were only offered in three calibers....30-30. .32SPCL, and .35 Remington...

Waffle top 336's were made from 1948-1952; with 1953 as the first year for the slick top receiver, and 1955 as the first year for factory drilled and tapped frame tops.

- similar to Model 336SC, in .219 Zipper cal., 5 shot mag. 3,230 mfg. 1955-60.

Myself, I might try to beat them down on the price. It's a pawn shop after all, you know they didn't give more than $100 for it. I like a good project.
