I have a Marlin 336 30-30. I have a friend who is interested in buying it for his wife for deer. I looked at the markings and all it shows is that its a 336 (stamped on the barrel). It has a gold trigger and I know by the serial number it was made in 1977. From everything I've been reading I think its a W. Is there a way I can tell by the serial number what model I have? I've tried to get to the Marlin web site but its either gone, down or has problems. I received it as a gift in the 80's and it was used so I don't have the owners manual for it either. I would like to price it correctly and not rip him off or get burned.

Yours is a 336C. It should have a curved pistol grip and lever and white spacers on the grip and butt. It has two barrel bands and a 20" barrel. $300 is a fair price and $250 would be a good price to sell to a friend.
