I'm a new member and was following a tread about Marlins, most inputs was on the 1894C I have a old 357 1894 no C stamped (jm) my has a 18" barrel, my sun has a 1894C with a 20" barrel, Both hold 10 rounds. Can some body tell me what the differnce is other then leagth, Thank. Ed V

My 1894 (no C Designation) is a 44 Rem. Magnum / 44 Special. and has a 20 inch Barrel
My 1894 C is a .357 .38 Special. and has an 18.5 inch Barrel
If it were me the first thing I would do is double check the barrel on the 1894 and be certain it is not a .44 Magnum. I'm not making fun of you, to my knowledge the 44 Magnums /.44 Special were introduced in the late 1960's and designated 1894. With the Popularity of the Magnum Rounds Marlin introduced the 1894C .357 / 38 Special in the 1970's
So if you have an 1894 it is either a .44 Magnum if you have an 1894C it is a .357
Got any Pictures?

357 mag

Mrdig, Mine is a 357 mag will take 38sp. 10 round chamber, and it is stamped 1894 but no C. and on the barrel it has (jm) Maybe it is a C but did'nt get stamped right.Thank you for the help.

I didn't say it couldn't happen, I said "to my knowledge" which can also mean "you learn something new everyday". I'm no expert but I reference things well.
Here is a thread that I use for that
http://www.marlin-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7218
It may not be complete but it is at least comprehensive.
Like I said, I'm no expert. and will concede you in fact have an 1894 in .357/.38 Spc with no C designation.
How does it shoot? Mine is a little rough on the fitting but it is a hell of a shooter considering the round it is chambered for.
Edit, RPNY yeah I'm a member there too great information. I look forward to watching this thread and learning something.

MIne shots great, I got a 8-pointer in NC last year, 137yrds. I can rapid fire on the range but the shell needs to have time to settle in on levering. Sweet open sight shooting. Target or hunting. Ed
