Marlin 39A Questions/Price Check

I saw a 39A in a Pawn Shop today.

Serial # N85xx.

What can you tell me about that model serial #? How old is it?

It had a pistol grip made without a cap on the pistol grip.
It had a hole in the stock where the plastic "bulls eye" should have been. There were some minor blemishes in the metal on one side of the reciever. Otherwise, pretty good shape.

They said I could have it for $400 out the door. Is that a good price? Can I get a replacement bulls eye? For how much? Thanks.

That's a solid price in my part of the world. New 39s are well over $500 when you can find them. Read through any 10 posts in the Marlin 39 Club to see the high degree of happy factor from owners. In short, you can't go wrong.
