Took my Marlin apart to clean it. Put it back together and now the bolt doesn't want to move. I didn't disassemble the action mechanism - just pulled the plastic pen out of the back so it came out of the receiver. I'm pretty sure I'm reassembling it correctly. Pulled the bolt back until I could lock it with the charging handle, then inserted the mechanism and reinstalled the push pin. Pulled the charging handle back, let it go, and the bolt doesn't move. I can push it forward, but otherwise , it doesn't move on it's own.

Doesn't look like it. The bolt cycles just fine until I act the mechanism back into it. It's like the feed ramp is too high.

Do you have a 'last shot hold open' style 60? Extra 'lever' on the bottom, near the trigger guard?

Check out the stickies on RFC for Marlin Semiautomatics. You'll find links to good graphics and instructions on how the action goes together.

I think you got the screws that hold the receiver and barrel to the stock too tight. Loosen them up a small amount at a time to find the "sweet" spot. kwg

Take it back apart to see whats binding. Charging handle is probably not seated right or your spring is kinked. While your in there, admire the Marlin engineering that Bill Ruger copied when he designed the 10/22:)

I cleaned my old Marlin 60 a while back after years of use with no proper cleaning. There was dirt and grime caked to the insides of that thing and it still worked! Anyway, after a thourough dirt and grime removal session, I reassembled the thing and the action felt like it had sand in it. It was very sticky. I dissassembled it again and re cleaned and there was still more stuff coming out. I did this at least once more to get the guns smooth action back. I wonder if the same thing is happening to you?

I don't need 3 10/22s. Never shoot the two I have.

I don't think it's the spring. If it was, I imagine it would bind up whether or not the mechanism is installed.

Can't be the screws - haven't installed them.

It really looks like it is binding up on the feed tray.

It is the type with the bolt hold open.

Make sure the BHO is letting the bolt move. If the mag tube is empty the BHO will prevent the bolt from going home. With bolt in the 'hung up' position, release the BHO and see if that's it.

One thing I felt nessacary with the 60s is useing carb cleaner in the reciever every 500 rounds mine also feels like sand. But don't get it on the wood or anything plastic I learned that when I melted my safety stuck on
