It doesn't seem to cock the striker when I pull the bolt back, so I figured I'd tear into it and have a look.

I can't tear into it.

It seems that the two little buttons on the sides of the receiver will not fully depress to allow me to get the plug out the back. From the little I could find on the world wide web, this can happen if the gun is cocked when you try to disassemble it. But... the gun doesn't cock. Or maybe it doesn't fire when the trigger is pulled.

Any ideas? Alternative disassembly methods? I'd really rather not pull the barrel just to find out that the bolt won't slide out that side!

Last resort is slice it in half and weld it back up when/if I find the problem and fix it!

Not sure but heres info of the mag fed version. Do the buttons move at all or could they be rusted or corroded? Did you put som penatrant around them like Kroil? Look wher the trigger contacts the sear or relaese point. You can try pressing there to see if it is indeed cocked blocking the buttons. Make sure it,s not loaded. Good luck.

They move what I presume to be about halfway (the distance I presume a functional edition would move if it were cocked) then stop hard. They aren't frozen, but I did apply some oil, just good practice.

Already seen the video, thanks for posting though. If you know of any more good ones (an animation would be really nice), by all means, please post!

Not loaded.

Tried pushing the lever (sear?) to release the striker, and nothing happened. Missing spring? What can I push on while pushing on the sear to use my muscle power to replace this possibly missing spring?

I took everything off that I could, except the barrel, in hopes that I could reach, poke, and prod inside better. (Pulling off the barrel will not help.)

This may have been assembled wrong, parts could be broken, etc. The big problem is really that I'm unfamiliar with this design, and there aren't any good schematics out there.

Do you have one?

No I don,t but I did take one apart for a full cleaning probably 30 years ago for a friend. I don,t remember much. I just got it apart and back together and it worked fine. Hopefully someone else will have more info. Maybe if you hold it front end down and give it a couple wraps with a rubber mallet the striker will move forward if it,s just free floating in the plug.. Good luck again.
