Marlin 881 advice

My local shop has a scoped, used 881 for $125. Tube fed bolt with a nice walnut stock.. Anybody know anything good/bad about this rifle?? Is 125 a good deal?

I have one that I bought for 100 dollars at a gun show last year and then mounted a 35 dollar BSA 22 special 2x scope. It is an accurate little rifle and has put several three shot groups in and around a half inch with Federal champion and CCI green tag and around 1 inch with about everything else I fed her. Reliability is has been ok with only about 10 or 11 jams in about 2000 rds but when it does jam it is pain in the arse to clear.
The only thing I dont like about mine is that the trigger is horrible.

I say check it out some more and if you like it,buy it.

new, that rifle sold for about 150, no scope. if it is a wood stock , killer. if it is a synth stock, you may have to shim/bed the action a bit, so you don't get that 'first shot flyer' as you do with a lot of synth stock 22's that are tube fed. Now it should fire s,l, and lr's , and the tube should hold 22 to 25 shorts at one time!!! how sick is that? and yes , they are just fine , accuracy wise. i say it is a good deal, you should get it.

I see now, that it has a wood stock, buy right now, and don't wait, my God man!!! It should be hella accurate, as opposed to the synth stock.

Mine holds 27 shorts with one in the chamber.
And thats the first time I heard about the synthetic stock problem. Why is that?
Mine has a walnut stock and I have notice that accuracy is greatly affected by how tight the screw is.

with a typical synth stock, when you load it up, if it is tube fed, the first shot or maybe even two, will "settle' in the action/receiver into the stock. then it shoots fantastic. Then you go to reload and start the process all over.
Like sleeping in the perfect position, then suddenly you wake up, you get up, get some water, go pee, etc., then you go back to bed, and it takes a while to get in that perfect sleep position. Same idea, unless you bed/shim slightly , on that action. you can really see this in Savage 22 stocks.

jamming

I just bought a 881 and am having trouble with putting the first round in the chamber. It holds about 17 rounds and once we get I get one in the chamber it functions fine for 17 rounds. So we is the deal with it jamming that first round...any advise?

I have had a 881 for many years. I had the same problem. The answer is to open up the bolt before you put shells in the tube. Fill the tube and put the rod in and turn it and lock the tube in place. Then shut the bolt then reopen it and shut the bolt again and a shell is in the chamber and you are good to go. Mine never jams when I do this.
